Is this considered diversity?

Post by hulahoop » Thu Nov 04, 2010 11:01 am

Hey, so I was considering writing a short diversity statement, but am not sure if this stuff really qualifies. I dont want to waste time writing this if it will not help me when I can be polishing my PS.
Any input/advice appreciated!

-first generation american, bilingual (europe)
-single parent, no contact with other
-multi-racial half-siblings
-low-income growing up in upperclass neighborhood
-alternative schooling until highschool

I do not want to sound like I am trying to make up adversity to overcome, but would sharing this information bring anything to my app?

I would pick one of these topics and run with with it, instead of trying to combine several of them. Personally, I think being a first generation american would make the most compelling diversity statement.
