2 Page Limit

Post by jarofsoup » Wed Oct 13, 2010 4:02 pm

I am working on a personal statement and have become obessed with not going over two pages.

Most the schools I am applying to require 2-4. Except a couple that limit it to 2.

Do adcomms really appreciate keeping it to 2 pages as much as people say, and why? Should I keep at two or go to like 2 1/2 or so if a can.

I searched the forum and it seems like 2pgs is the unspoken rule. This true?

I just want to qualify this by stating that I have only spoken to a limited number of adcomm, but everyone I have ever heard when asked this question have responded with "keep within the limit". I don't think it would be wise to go over, and further I think you can convey your message within the limit by careful editing.

Hope this helps.

Yeah but the 2pg limit is usually below most applications stated limits, so that is my question.

My PS was 400 words. No reason to go longer than that. You don't need to tell them your life story.

Do NOT go over the limit. Not following directions makes you look bad.

Just write as much as you feel like. If it says 2-4, and you write 2 and don't have more to say, that's fine.

If it's a 2 limit, stay within 2. While they do appreciate a shorter PS because they have to read thousands of these things, they mainly appreciate your ability to follow the rules.

If it's a longer limit, it is okay to go over2 if you are under the limit. However, you will have to edit your PS down to 2 pages for some, maybe even most, schools and a 2 page PS is probably better than a 2.5 page PS in most cases.
