Can we put School's abbreviation in the PS?
E.g. UVA instead of University of Virginia? Is that going to hurt my cause? It just seems redundant to write The University of Virginia three times over the course of two sentences.

I'm going with this rule for mine: First and last time you write the name, spell it out. Any other times, abbreviate.

You can absolutely do that. There is nothing informal or incorrect about using a school's abbreviation, especially when the school commonly uses the abbreviation themselves. For example, schools like Penn, BU, UVA, BC, etc. all use those abbreviations often. So there is no harm in you doing so as well. Plus it saves you valuable space in your PS. However, I agree with the post above me that it sounds good to write out the full name the first time you mention it.

no, you must refer to Stanford as its full name every time: The Leland Stanford Junior University Law School.

dakatz, are you an authority on law school admissions? I don't mean that as confrontational in any way, but you are speaking rather authoritatively. Are you an admissions official? I only ask because, if you are, I might send some questions your way. Thanks.

I used Penn and the University of Pennsylvania. Worked out fine.
