Politically charged... always a bad idea?
I have almost 3 years work experience at an immigration law firm, and have written a PS that takes a definite advocacy stance. Is this a necessarily terrible idea? I feel if I am ambiguous and general on my PS, it will come off much weaker.

I don't know if it is always a bad idea, but generally yes. If you feel you may be the exception, post your PS and have people critique it.

I think it's not too charged except for the last paragraph which I feel is unnecessarily attacking a Republican talking point.

Sentences like this can hurt you IMO.If family values are this important, then they must apply equally to native-born and immigrant families alike.

Thanks for the insight, some other people have been telling me to avoid politics altogether, but that would mean writing a completely different story.

I think it's a great story and isn't necessarily charged by itself. Your PS takes a fine stance until you shift directions in the last paragraph. Cut that out and I see no problem with it.

This. It is a good story. You just don't want to preach to people.bk187 wrote:I think it's a great story and isn't necessarily charged by itself. Your PS takes a fine stance until you shift directions in the last paragraph. Cut that out and I see no problem with it.

I got rid of the last paragraph and am working on grammar, passive/active voice issues. Next step is cutting it down to suit other law schools. Thanks!
