Financial Hardship - Diversity Statement Forum

Hello,
Is is a good idea to address use a diversity statement to address financial hardship or not?

I'm conflicted because an incident in my earlier years changed my life - and resulted in many years of financial hardship...it really shaped my world view, and it's not your run of the mill incident either (like divorce, death, bankruptcy, jail). It is something that probably doesn't happen to people. PM for the details, or the rough draft of the statement I've written. Thanks!
