If it were Haiku, now that would be a different story altogether.

Your verse PS stands out from the crowd
the depth of your mission speaks for itself
it is no gimmick, but solemnly vowed
eschewing a meter to show them yourself
You're someone unique, it cries with its shriek
no punctuation; lines suddenly end!
your message is sleek and displays much technique
the 'no' pile it'll surely transcend!
your personal statement is the most pretty of prayers
but God, like Godspeed, says "no one cares."

To apply I've authored a lim'rick.
Though you may opine it's a gimm'rick,
I find it refreshing,
And not so distressing
As the "prose" of some makes me bullim'rick.

Re: How Risky is Prose?
Having been a high school English teacher for years, I can honestly say that this is one of the worst pieces I have ever read. You clearly have no idea of what poetry is. In fact, you think it is called prose.
Do not send this to reaches. It would likely give even extreme safeties a reason to reject you (and a justifiable one at that).
Comically bad.

Shouldn't an English teacher be smart enough not to start a sentence with "But?"KMaine wrote:But hopefully you are smart enough to know not to.kittenmittons wrote:ITT: Piling on

I think that's actually acceptable. They just tell students to stay away from it to avoid writing fragments.Xnegd wrote:Shouldn't an English teacher be smart enough not to start a sentence with "But?"KMaine wrote:But hopefully you are smart enough to know not to.kittenmittons wrote:ITT: Piling on

I agree, but since we're getting technical, periods and commas always go inside quotation marks in American English. So it should be:oneforship wrote: You can start sentences with "But". And "And".

by the way, I'm also supposed to capitalize my sentences when I begin them. but I'm not.

You should record yourself spittin those verses with the beat to Renegades blasting in the background, then send that in.

I end my sentences with prepositions and blame it on my dialect.

Re: How Risky is Prose?
A few issues. First, you may begin sentences with "but" and "and." It is also perfectly acceptable to end sentences with prepositions. An English teacher (and most other intelligent people) would know that different rules apply for standard written English and, for example, conversational English or posting random stuff on the internet. And though there are many different ways to write a good poem, there are also some poems that would make anyone cringe (see OP's "prose" for example).
Maybe I was a little harsh, so I am sorry. But posting that poem on TLS was like hanging a bag of bloody flesh in front of starving sharks. You had to see it coming. If you don't believe me, use it as your PS and watch the rejections roll in. Not smart enough to know not to start a sentence with "but" -- good stuff.

A preposition is a terrible thing to end a sentence with.
