The residents have to give 60 days notice, so they can tell you the availability for the time you want 2 months ahead. I want to move in in mid-late june so I'll hear soon!! fingers crossed.doublehoo22 wrote:cantwait... Did they tell you when they would know something?

The kitchen in the smaller one is really large compared to the other places I saw. The kitchen in the larger unit was larger in terms of floor space, but the actual amount of cabinets and counter space was basically the same.tkm. wrote:how did the size of the bedrooms and the kitchen compare to the smaller apt?
The bedrooms in the large unit were huge. But the ones in the small unit were plenty spacious. I mean you could easily fit a queen-sized bed, nightstands, dresser, a chair by the window, etc.

I'm sure you will be fine. I can't imagine them not getting something open.

I''m sure something will open up, i'm just hoping for an exact match (ie the small 2br, upstairs, with a fireplace)doublehoo22 wrote:cantwaitforuva wrote:The residents have to give 60 days notice, so they can tell you the availability for the time you want 2 months ahead. hmm. Maybe it was just the unit that I saw, but the kitchen was TINY...absolutely no counter space which is really depressing because I love to cook and I can't imagine having as little counter space as I have in my apartment now. It's just not functional.
WHY did I go see the Woodlands?! Now everything else looks miserable in comparison. The kitchen was my favorite part.

I'm writing on Helen of Troy, focusing on the Iliad/Odyssey, Stesichorus' Palinode on Helen, and Euripides' Helen. Basically, it is my life's mission (or rather the theme of my undergraduate career) to defend pretty, misunderstood women (e.g. Estella from Great Expectation, Becky Sharp from Vanity Fair, Helen, Scarlett O'Hara...).J-Rod wrote:What are you writing on? I mean, it's a fun topic. It's just not as fun a year after I thought of it!
I guess it is? I need to write one to get honors in my Classics major, but I don't need to write one for my English major. Trust me, I'm only doing it to get honors. International Relations majors here need to write 100-120 pagestkm. wrote:is this thesis writing common? I don't know anyone writing a thesis....sooo my school must suck. super.

Oh I can explain what you saw. The only units they've been showing are condos for buying, not the actual apts we would be getting. The apts are nicer than the condos and the kitchens are much bigger. If you PM me with your email I can send you pics of what the kitchen would look like in a rental unit.

From the website (and a girl I talked to at the ASW who currently lives there), it seemed nice. It was my second choice (and it's right next to the Woodlands so you can come crash with us on a constant basis). They are roomier, but everything is one grade down (i.e. corian countertops instead of granite; regular appliances instead of stainless steel).tkm. wrote:Did you go see Jefferson Ridge? Re: UVA Class of 2011 Housing Thread
It was pretty but the pool was right in front of the office, which creeped me out, and the people there were not friendly. The kitchen is large, but not much larger than the ones at CH. I looked at the 1br plus office and the office was tiny. Neither the bedroom nor the office had walk in closets. I need closet space, so this was a definite no for me. Also there wasn't a utility room, which I really like for storing cleaning products, etc. All in all, nice, but not nice enough to justify the extra expense or the lack of closet space. To be honest I think the Avemore is prettier than JR and it's much less expensive (even factoring in utilities).tkm. wrote:Did you go see Jefferson Ridge? If so, how was that complex?

Are there any other apt complexes that have granite, other than the woodlands, don't house ugrads, and aren't set up solely for roommates?

It's not fair that all of the self-deprecating ladies already have boyfriends.
To join the parade, I'm awkward too if supersarcastic and not trendy qualifies.

ok so i think i'm going to make a move on an arlington townhouse. as much as i adore the woodlands, i need to spend my first, car-less year right next to the library. if there could be pool parties/gossip girl watching sessions at the woodlands, though, i would be happy to provide beer and snacks in exchange for a spot on the couch.
with that said, anyone looking for a roommate who wants to be a nerd and live next to the library with me?
