I personally am a whiskey/rum kind of gal. Vodka tends to make me sick, and tequila tends to make me sicker (although I enjoy margaritas). And I don't have too much experience with gin, but the experiences I've had have been positive?
I'm not a huge fan of vodka, either. I figure if I can have gin why would I choose vodka? I really only like tequila for shots 8) . I will occasionally drink rum, but i really prefer gin - it's the only alc I regularly keep in the house. I also enjoy a good scotch, but I'm really picky about that, too.

Sialeeds, you should try some of the new gins, they're very good.

Beefeater is my gin of choice. A lot of martini lovers cheerlead for Bombay Sapphire, but it has a bite on the finish that doesn't sit right with me. IMO, Beefeater is crisper and has more flavor, especially when served ice-cold. It also has the benefit of not being ridiculously overpriced. Either one makes for good gin-and-tonics, though.

Can't say I've ever tried Hendrick's - how is it?

And I'm also a firm supporter of the (somewhat snobby) notion that it's not a martini unless it's made with gin. In the books, Bond favored the "house martini" - half gin and half vodka.

Generally, I like all varieties of alcohol as long as they're half-decent. Beer, wine, scotch, whiskey, gin, vodka, bourbon, tequila, even absinthe... I've enjoyed several brands of each of them. I've come a long way from the twelve year old who ate two full bowls of ice cream to rinse out the taste of a single sip of scotch :)

I also have a special place in my heart (and liver) for bailey's and khalua.

And when it's cold out, nothing sounds better to me than a Kilt - I drank two last night and the bartender looked at me like I was crazy because it was so warm out.

And I drink rum when I'm sick - thank you France. When I had a cold in France everyone I knew, (incl my landlord, pharmacist, and grocer) told me to make grog - so I still do when I feel a cold coming on.

You guys are so much more sophisticated than me. I've finally gotten to the point where I can enjoy a glass of white wine. Still can't stand red! :?

Hendrick's is great. It's small batch from Scotland with cucumber and floral notes. The freshness of the cucumber mixes very well with the juniper. It's good in mixes, but very good on it's own or in a lightly mixed cocktail. I'll have a variety of gins in C-ville - we should have a gin-appreciation cocktail party - bonus points if you wear a monacle or top hat!

Haha - I think if a kid liked the taste of scotch that would be a bit weird. When my dad was young his father caught him drinking scotch and made him chug it until he threw up to teach him a lesson. My dad can't drink scotch to this day.

Although I have my snobby side when it comes to alc, you'll also find me drinking PBR - I'm really pretty flexible, it just depends on the situation. I also love wine and champagne.

i find a nice nattie light (or 12) served at about 5 degrees celcius really takes the edge off after a rough day. brewed for a naturally smooth taste, the inoffensive mix of barley and hops is truly second to none.

seriously, i feel like i'm a very immature drinker after reading this thread. what happened to kegs filled with someting that taste like a nice mix of alchol, water, and urine aka natural light

Fixed that for ya :)

Good taste isn't synonymous with snobbery. I opt for better stuff it's available, but I've been seen plenty with a Miller Lite in my hand. It's not like I'll insist on playing beer pong with Chimay.

Don't worry about it - that's what three years of law school are for.

i could have so much to contribute to this drinking discussion, but after last night, just the thought of an alcoholic beverage makes me want to throw up!!

(it went sake --> champagne --> vodka/various shots)

1.Fuckin' Jager Bombs are awesome

2. I still go to a bar just because they serve $1 Natty Light

3. I enjoy good scotch and am working my way through a great bottle of Belvenie given to me for my birthday.

So, have no fear, liking all of the above is not mutually exclusive.

I toured Lakeside recently and generally concur with everything Cantwait said. I did get the "homey feeling" though so I will keep it on my list. I am going to tour another one on the corner on Monday (the V). If I am not satisfied with either I will look at Walker Square and Stone Creek as well.

I have actually been inside one of those. They are pretty nice. I will add them to my list. I have to start narrowing things down so I don't spend a ton of money on application fees (sounds like the law school application process all over again).

So I haven't been accepted, but I really want to get in (just did my interview for PWL). But if I do get in and attend, can I join the snobby pet group. I have a kitten and she's a snob that likes to ignore other animals as well.

I've never watched gossip girl. :(

But I do have a tendency to get hooked on all shows that I start watching. It's a horrible curse.

Oh and I recently dyed my hair brown :(

tell us about your interview! (or did you already do so in another thread?) when was it? with whom? how long? questions? what did they say about chances? how long in advance did you schedule? (any other info? ;-))

Well I think my interview went well (but most people probably think their interviews go well). :D

I interviewed with Associate Dean Susan Palmer. She was really nice, and she just explained that they can predict somewhat accurately how many offers to make to get the needed amount of students, but that with applicants applying to more schools it's a little harder and some years they take no one off the waitlist and sometimes they take a lot of people.

I went in there expecting "Why do you want to go to UVA?" and "Why should UVA choose you?", but she actually didn't ask me either of those. Instead she asked me to go into more detail of parts of my resume, from there it turned into more of a conversation with questions asked. She asked what I was looking for in a school and what my cycle had been like. I was incredibly nervous in the beginning, and stumbled a bit (I even told her I was nervous), she was very nice about it and after that I began to feel much more comfortable and the conversation became much easier.

My interview lasted about half an hour, and I scheduled it on Wednesday and interviewed on Friday.

Nothing is wrong with brunettes!! I just thought the whole snobby pet group was blonde and I was feeling a bit left out especially since I've never seen gossip girl.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
