I believe there are open courts on Emmet St across from the undergrad bookstore. It's between University Ave and the McCormick Rd bridge.rayallen20 wrote:I've been dying to play some basketball since I've been here. Mmmkay guys. I'm getting in Thursday, if someone could create a list of "planned events" that would be awesome, but go ahead and put me down for everything that involves alcohol.
Also, watching the Olympics is depressed me about my current state of physical fitness so who wants to be my lifting/sparring partner.

okay, so i am gonna try to make it tomorrow, but we'll see if that actually happens. if anyone is going from the woodlands and wants to head to ivy with me, let me know assuming i actually get myself out of bed in time to make it. my cell is 843.902.2548kwatlington wrote:Hi All!
I would love to go to a winery during the week, but my fiance has to work... but seeing as there are so many wineries, I think multiple trips are in order!!We still plan on going tomorrow, though if anyone is interested. We are planning on going to King Family Vineyards (link below). There is a tasting room and some food there, but you can bring your own food and have a picnic out on there patio area. Just let me know if your are interested and we can meet at Ivy at 2.

Mostly grappling (wrestling, BJJ, other crap I learned from the Army's combat classes), though if someone could tutor me in the finer points of the sweet science, I would gladly give boxing a try.

Yeah a location at Ivy would be helpful!! I dont actually live there, just suggested it because it sounds like a lot of people live over there. Lets meet in front of building 103.

Hey, if anyone's interested, we're going to have a low-key movie tonight starting at around 7:30. For now, it'll be at my apartment but then we'll relocate to the movie theater at the Woodlands Clubhouse if we can. My apartment is 1925, Unit 102. It's at the back near the construction.
BYOB if you want (it's Sunday so I can't go get anything and I don't have much on hand!) Also, bring any movies you want us to consider for watching!
Call me if you need anything. 843.902.2548

I'm definitely down for some bball anytime after Monday. I'll be moving in at Avemore tomorrow, building 2004, so if you see me stop by, I'd love to meet everyone ASAP.

No liquor on Sundays, you can only buy liquor at ABC stores which are closed. Also, you can't buy alcohol at stores after midnight.

On the LSD site the only question I asked was whether Charlottesville had any BJJ gyms.CaptainDirtyBird wrote:Mostly grappling (wrestling, BJJ, other crap I learned from the Army's combat classes), though if someone could tutor me in the finer points of the sweet science, I would gladly give boxing a try.

I mentioned Sunday liquor and alcohol laws to a few bar-hopping classmates, and they were shocked that those sorts of prohibitions would be allowed to exist. Are Californians such as nip incapable of exercising restraint?nipplehead wrote:wait.........why not? uh oh, what are the VA alcohol laws?the1dukegirl wrote:(it's Sunday so I can't go get anything and I don't have much on hand!)

If you want to get plastered on beer and/or wine, you are still in luck. Drive, walk, bike or crawl to the nearest 7/11 or grocery store, and buy as much beer or wine or malt liquor as you would like. (In some municipalities, there are rules limiting the sale of beer or wine on a Sunday morning, if a store is located within a certain distance of a house of worship.)nipplehead wrote:this is unacceptable! what if, in honor of the Sabbath, i want to get blistered? my god, i'm going to have to stock up to ensure that i never run outSon of Cicero wrote:I mentioned Sunday liquor and alcohol laws to a few bar-hopping classmates, and they were shocked that those sorts of prohibitions would be allowed to exist. If you require vodka or tequila or something similar, then you do have to stock up on Saturday - AND you have to go to the state run ABC store. (The only exception to this is cities of more that 100,000 people where the ABC stores are open on Sundays.)
These rules are actually pretty common. Anyone who has lived in New England in the past few years (outside of NH of course) has experienced much harsher blue laws - Any Yalies want to comment about 9 pm deadlines for buying even beer anywhere Monday -Saturday? Even outside of New England, this isn't all that odd. Texas has a very similar hard liquor law - and throughout Tennessee, many counties are dry!
So, unless you really to be able to buy hard liquor on Sundays, it shouldn't be too hard living in Virginia - As an aside, I believe that Virginia still doesn't have an open container law for passengers... (Charlottesville might though, so you might want to do some research before you take advantage of that loophole!)
