Question for anyone who has already moved in: Do you think it' a bad idea to pack up and move down to Charlottesville without having seen the apartment I'll be moving into? Is it necessary to overlook the place to make sure everything is in order before I come down with a UHaul, or are apartments (Avemore in my case) pretty good about giving you the place in good condition?

I just moved into Avemore. The apartment was in good condition. The leasing office gives you a checklist so that you can note the condition upon move-in and return it to them. They're also pretty responsive with any maintenance, etc. So, I wouldn't worry about making a separate trip down.

Re: cheap furnishings in Cville - I moved in last weekend, picked up a few things at Target on the cheap. The Wal-Mart is pretty rotten, and it's not a supercenter.

Is anyone living at North Woods at Four Seasons? I'm getting more than a little bored. I'd also be down for any get-togethers between now and orientation, and I'm here during the week if we need someone to reserve a shelter at the park for the 7th.

No, sadly. I'm stealing someone's wireless . . . there is actually a problem with the internet and it won't connect . . . I guess a few of the move in's from this weekend can't connect yet, so we'll have to wait and talk to the leasing office on monday morning!

No shame in stealing wireless. I've been here in Avemore over a week and have been stealing my neighbor's signal until the Comcast guy came today to set us up.

The family went over to the Blue Ridge Parkway and hiked to Humpback Rock - moderately strenuous, but well worth it; I have new pictures on my desktops. I highly recommend it.
