Re: NYU Law Class of 2011
What's the deal with getting our loan money? I applied for loans, they got approved, but that's the last I've heard. I assume tuition will be directly taken out by NYU (right?), but what about living expenses? I never had to give a bank account number or anything while applying, so I don't know how they'll get the money to me.

Re: NYU Law Class of 2011
You need to sign up for Direct Deposit through the Bursar. I had the link but lost it somewhere.
Your loans go through the Bursar's Office during orientation and then they flow through to you.

If anyone is curious about orientation the letter regarding it has been posted on the admitted students site.

Did you guys get any kind of confirmation that the school has received your final transcript, college questionnaire, final enrollment form or any of those things?

They recommend signing up for Direct Deposit, but it's not necessary to. If you don't sign up, they will mail you a check after the semester starts. It takes longer, but you'll still get it.VaultBound wrote:You need to sign up for Direct Deposit through the Bursar. I had the link but lost it somewhere.

Looking at the CLS waitlist thread got me thinking, did any of y'all actually prefer NYU to CLS? I did (do?).

I would have went to Columbia based on my interests in finance/securities law. Columbia blows NYU out of the water in that area. I think NYU sort of neglects business law for more "liberal" pursuits. They really don't have any business law allstar profs, and since they are in NYC, it seems a bit strange. I'm sure Wachtell has given them infinite$$$ to poach if they wanted.

I chose between NYU and CLS and chose NYU. A lot of people I know chose CLS. I bet in three years we will have enjoyed our time and they will have enjoyed theirs.underdawg wrote:Looking at the CLS waitlist thread got me thinking, did any of y'all actually prefer NYU to CLS? I did (do?).

NYU over CLS here. Once I actually visited both, it wasn't even close.

I preferred CLS until Monday. Then I withdrew from their reserve list and now I am NYU's biggest fan. I have erased memories of CLS and only have the greatest of loyalty to NYU now.

Re: NYU Law Class of 2011
Amen to all. I chose NYU over CLS and Chicago...
...and other than the abomination that was trying to find housing near school, the further I get from that decision the more sure I am that it was absolutely the right one. The main advantages of CLS in my mind were the name prestige and the seeming smoothness of all of their operations. NYU didn't give me that same feeling of assuredness, but everything else about it appealed to me more, and in the end I just chalked Columbia's "you're in good, well-practiced hands with us" vibe up to superior marketing.

Re: NYU Law Class of 2011
So I feel like a lost CLS student with these pictures that are in the tentative schedule. There's the NYU picture which is separate from the Law School picture, that much I get. But it says the Law School picture would be used for employers during interviews. Wouldn't we want a professional (or even semi-professional) picture for that? I know there are a couple opportunities to take them but one is on the Sunday that we are supposed to dress comfortably for what I think is a Scavenger Hunt around the Village (I did one this past summer with a legit company during an internship).
Also, they suggest we buy our books on Saturday but when will we actually know the section assignments?

Good questions, vault. Also, do they really expect us to wear matching T-shirts?

Leads me to believe we'll be getting another one. Hopefully this one won't be vacuum-packed.You will be getting a T-shirt to throw over whatever else you have on.

That confused me too. It says we don't get our sections until the first mandatory thing on Sunday so I don't know when we're supposed to buy themAlso, they suggest we buy our books on Saturday but when will we actually know the section assignments?

Maybe that means all sections have the same books?
On that note, I would like to buy my books for as cheap as humanly possible. Anyone know any good tricks? Surely they have used books at the bookstore.
