Looks like youre expected to take out loans for all but $5000 of it... only that they have calculated a loan where you would take the whole thing out in loans.

I tried logging in earlier yesterday and it didn't work. In fact, I tried a couple of times unsuccessfully and it disabled my account. Later, I received an e-mail saying that my information was ready, but now I have to call a number to have my account enabled. So in other words, I would wait for the e-mail.

How soon do you think I need to apply for housing? It's april 1, and I doubt I will be hearing about $$ any time soon (I was a little... late with that extra financial aide form).

Did anybody who got one of the merit scholarships end up getting a grant as well? Because my estimated student/family contribution is extremely low yet I didn't get any need-based grants. I really hope getting one doesn't exclude you from the other.

Wow, 60k for a year? That seems like a lot, even in San Fran. I left CA and pay out of state tuition and still only had expenses of 40k this first year. I'm assuming you guys have to pay out of state tuition?

If I attend (99% certain), my fiance and I will be looking at Hayes Valley ($$$), Lower Haight, Inner Sunset, The Richmond as well as Oakland and Berkeley. I am all about the commute and cost. If we can get a decent price in one of those neighborhoods in the city, we'll take it. If we get pushed out to Oakland (not such a bad thing these days--Oakland has gotten younger and sassier since SF priced out so many young folk), BART access is a must, so perhaps something near 12th St. BART (Lake Merritt area). Although I love Berkeley, I don't like dealing with the Richmond BART line--its always strikes me as being a bit slower than other lines. Another downside of living in the East Bay would be the turning into a pumpkin at midnight factor--the last trains leave the city around 12:30 so that might put restrictions on your social life and study hours.

I love the idea of leaving class, walking over to the Main Library, getting my study on and then being able to hop on the N Judah, stopping off for Chinese takeout on my way home.

Ohhhh, how I've missed the city.

I actually already live in the East Bay and love it, but I think if I go to Hastings (which is looking likely) I would like to actually live in SF. I have friends living all over the city and am familiar with the neighborhoods. I'm just curious where, specifically, Hastings students are looking at living.

It seems like pithy and brizz are the most knowledgeable on the city. I live in the East Bay now as well, and I'd be commuting in next year, mostly because my SO goes to school here. If I didn't have that consideration, I'd probably look to move into the city as well.

Lower Haight is the tits, but just make sure your bedroom window is OFF the street. The Sunset and Richmond are cheap and parking is easy, but they're as dull as dust, and you have to drive to every damn thing.

You'll love it right up until the first time the damn thing seizes up for an hour. I was on the N line one morning when a girl got on wearing a shirt that said, "F*CK THE N-JUDAH." She was treated to cheers and applause from everyone in the car. :)

I would say, there are fewer bookstores than is to my liking and no nightlife to speak of. But if you think the Richmond is dull you haven't spent enough time on the 38 Geary! The bus often smells like dried jellyfish. Asian and Russian grandmothers practically knock you down trying to make their stops. Loud multi-ethnic teenagers sit on each others laps but for some reason, still shout to be heard. Never a dull moment!

Just thought i'd check in here. Paid for my first seat reservation just a week ago after getting my financial aid info.

The "expected contribution line" is whatever you put for the 2nd line (or maybe first) of your supplemental financial aid information page you sent in. Though I think this was figured out with sockpuppet's link if anyone went there.

I wont be living in the tower for somewhat of the same reasons as others have said. Mostly the kitchen would drive me crazy as I have to cook every meal I eat. I plan on moving there somewhat early and getting settled in. Hoping for something in Western addition at this point as it seems less expensive than some of the other neighborhoods but not quite as ghetto as the tenderloin.

People going there, are you taking your car or no?
