Has anyone received the breakdown for the Costs of Attendance from next year? On UVA's website its listed as 60,100 (41,800 tuition plus fees/living expenses) but I was wondering whether a laptop/medical insurance is included in that estimate.

Insurance should be in the total budget (1,976). Laptop, no.

A laptop is not part of that estimate, but you can get a one time COA increase of up to $2500 for a laptop if you provide a receipt and send a written request to UVA.The Agitator wrote:Has anyone received the breakdown for the Costs of Attendance from next year? Medical insurance is included (for $2000) in the estimate.
Here's the break down:
Tuition and Fees: $41,800
Housing: 6,502
Personal Expenses: 7,222
Health Insurance: 1,976
Books and Supplies: 1,800
Loan Fees: 800
Totals: $60,100

They hide it so you don't realize how screwed you are until it's too late.

brittanyg, I called the police department and spoke with a very helpful lady in the Crime Analysis unit. There are no real "high crime" areas in C'ville, but no place is entirely free of crime. Speaking as a former police officer, I have never heard someone who works at a police department speak so highly about the city/jurisdiction. Normally they're quick to identify the negative, so it was a major plus to me when she told me how much she liked the city.brittanyg wrote:Thanks for the info. That place sounds perfect to me. I will have to check it out. I am used to shorts and tees also. I hope UVA is as into sports as Florida, although I probably don't need the distraction. Also, are there any unsafe areas around C'ville. Gainesville did have a few but not many.
Incidentally, I highly recommend contacting the appropriate crime analysis unit (C'ville police or Albemarle SO) for a incident history check anywhere you're seriously considering.
...and I won't mention that I'm coming from FSU.

Hey Steelersandgators, I am a gator and I am glad school starts later in Virginia because I can see a few games and maybe some away games. I will always be a diehard gator. I am second generation gator. I bleed orange and blue. I even go to Atlanta to see Al play basketball and Chicago to see Noah. I also went to the us open to see Jesse Levine play tennis and am planning to go again i he makes the cut.

It's probably the norm. Ours was more like three weeks I think.cantwaitforuva wrote:Isn't that the norm?? How long was it at your ugrad??SteelersandGators wrote: And our winter break is a month long
My point was that UVA's winter break encompasses the date of the National Championship game. The last couple years, we've already been back in school when the championship game happend. In fact, when I went to Arizona a couple years ago for it, it was held on our first day back to school.

YAY!! The more Gators the better! Last year, UF was tied for third for the highest representation at UVA Law....hopefully that trend continues.brittanyg wrote:Hey Steelersandgators, I am a gator and I am glad school starts later in Virginia because I can see a few games and maybe some away games. UVA must like gators. Maybe that competitive spirit shines through.

do we have any bulls fans here?... i haven't gotten a jersey in years, but whatever that #1 turns out to be, i'm gonna have to splurge and get it.
also the guys that were thinking about playing ball come fall, how are you maintaining your skills? i haven't been able to get into any substantial pick up games or an indoor court in over 2-3 weeks.

also, if you're in arlington, va, and you drive a gold honda accord, be very careful about parking it near the intersection of S. Fern and 19th, because that leads to a theft rate of 100% as far as i can tell.OnceLost wrote:brittanyg, I called the police department and spoke with a very helpful lady in the Crime Analysis unit. Chicago Bulls? I love them. They drafted Joakim Noah. He is a great guy and hopefully will live up to his potential in the pros.

My grandmother lives in Arlington. I will have to ask her about that intersection.

That is Gainesville police. I wonder how many UVA students have walked a block betweem frat parties with a glass of beer. And as far as the Joint in the cigarettes, he doesn't even smoke. Any other school would have given a two-time national championship player a pass. The starting five had at least 4 players who could have gone very high in the NBA draft but they stayed one more year at Florida.

Re: University of Virginia School of Law 2011
I usually sit in the background and read this board, but I wanted to let all the gators know that UT (the real UT...Tennessee) is represented in next years class. Also, if studying allows, I am probably going to Knoxville for the Florida game. Y'all are welcome to jump in the car, and we can make some sort of don't-be-obnoxious rule after the game toward the losers (Florida fans). I can probably find us all somewhere to stay too if y'all like to party on game weekends. Remember Sports Illustrated voted Tennessee the best college football weekend. However, I'm hoping UVa is slightly more relaxing and a change of pace for football weekends.
Also my house is going to have a huge TV that I was lucky enough to get a hold of for free. We will be hosting much sports viewage. Particularly for college football and basketball... and probably super bowl as well.

Hey, Tennessee is better than Texas any day of the week. Yes, a trip to Knoxville would be awesome. I agree no obnoxious fans.
