I was just doing some Wikipediaing, & did you guys know Judge Judy went to NYU? Kind of cool, huh? I'll bet she was a legend there. Maybe ask some profs if they remember her, though it's been a while.

Re: NYU Law Class of 2011
I had the same question, regarding my GradPLUS loan. I called HESC this afternoon, and they told me that my credit was approved, and that they were waiting for "institutional approval" from NYU. I called NYU, and the person I spoke with confirmed that all I needed to have done was to complete the HESC GradPLUS Promissory note (which included a step of indicating how much I wanted to borrow). He said that NYU has a lot of loans to process, and that they're working through them currently, and should be through them all by the middle of July or so. I imagine NYU or HESC will get back in touch with us at that point.

Pretty bland discussions going on here. UVa can put together 188 pages and all we can do is trade useful information? Weak.

Also, regarding gradPLUS lenders, this summary from another school may be of interest. I haven't checked to see if all of these lenders are available through HESC. Chase and Citizen's Bank, along with Wachovia, seem like great deals.

Re: NYU Law Class of 2011
Two more pieces of info useful to those applying for Stafford and GradPLUS loans:
(1) I just spoke with HESC to find out about changing my lender on both loans. They said all I need to do is sign a new Master Promissory Note for each.
(2) Did anyone else notice that there is an entry for "New York University" when selecting a school code, but not for "New York University Law?" That's because the proper school code is listed under "NYU Law."

The right code is the one from New York University, as well - 00278500.

Confusing. HESC doesn't even know off-hand. I had to call the FinAid office.

I don't think it should make a difference between the codes. If you notice, they all go to the same address, 25 W. 4th St., which is the all-University Student Services Center.

I'll stick with the code on the NYU website. I don't need them asking me to cut a check for my tuition payment during orientation.

I also got confused by the immunization shenanigans. This was the e-mail I got back from them:
In other news, does anyone want to ditch the first day of orientation if the last McCarren Pool Party's "TBA" date is another Hold Steady show?

I apologize for any confusion. The Student Health History Form is not
required. We would need for you to submit the Student Immunization

incoming and continuing students. Below are links to the forms for

That's the OPPOSITE of what they told me. Someone in that office needs to whip it into shape.dgs wrote:I also got confused by the immunization shenanigans. This was the e-mail I got back from them:

I've been doing some research on the grad plus and stafford loans and the information about wachovia is out of date. As of now, they no longer offer a great incentives package. Here's the link for Wachovia's current incentives: http://www.wachovia.com/personal/page/0 ... 84,00.html
The website from Mingus is full of out of date information as well. Once you go to each bank's website you'll see current incentives. Something happened over the last year where a lot of banks dropped their competitive rate reductions and began limiting their incentives to a .25% rate reduction with the use of auto-debit payments.
The ONLY bank I found listed on the NYU website (--LinkRemoved--) with incentives beyond a .25% rate reduction for auto-debit usage is Citi Bank.
Here's the Citibank link: https://www.studentloan.com/findstudent ... udents.htm
Has anyone else found a competitive lender?

Re: NYU Law Class of 2011
This is incorrect. As I said a few pages ago, Wachovia's package is very competitive. They offer a 1.0% rebate and .25% rate reduction for auto-debit on Stafford and 1.0% rate reduction on GradPLUS after 36 on-time payments. Come to think of it, I'm not sure if there's ALSO the .25% reduction on GradPLUS for auto-debit as well because I seem to have left that out. If you take the below situation into account WITHOUT making the $20k/summer, the difference would be even greater because the final loan amount would be larger and the difference in the rate after 3 years would cause the disparity to grow.timmyh3523 wrote:The ONLY bank I found listed on the NYU website (--LinkRemoved--) with incentives beyond a .25% rate reduction for auto-debit usage is Citi Bank.

VaultBound wrote:Financial Aid FYI:
Assuming:
-Received the big $0 in your award letter
-Use $20,000 from summer employment from both summers for following year's expenses
-Take out max in Stafford and GradPLUS (after applying $20,000 from above)
-Take advantage of all incentives offered
-Keep your loans for their full life (10 years; not as important but still involved in the calculation)
Total paid to receive $157,230 from Wachovia: $246578.88
Total paid to receive $156,924 from Citibank: $268,219.20
Savings with Wachovia : $24,640.32
Thought I'd share the info. Enjoy the debt.
Edited for clarity.

Re: NYU Law Class of 2011
Do you have a link with Wachovia's information? Cause I can't find that info on their website (which has been recently changed to reflect updated incentives) and when I called a loan specialist at the bank I heard "the only incentive being offered is the .25% reduction for auto-debit." Check the wachovia link because they just updated it around the 1st of July: http://www.wachovia.com/personal/page/0 ... 84,00.htmlVaultBound wrote:This is incorrect. Re: NYU Law Class of 2011
I applied a couple weeks ago. I even called to confirm all the incentives.
After checking the website and calling Wachovia directly, it seems as though they changed them July 1st. If you qualified prior to then, you should be fine.

Has anyone filed with HESC? I filed two weeks ago and Wachovia never received an application and now HESC doesn't show a record of my application. Anyone else have any problems?

Re: NYU Law Class of 2011
I just called Wachovia. Their incentives have changed for the 2008 academic year. What Vault posted pertains to loans distributed before July 1, 2008. I wish I would have known this before applying yesterday. Looks like I have to change lenders.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
