Not sure where I'd find that information, but when I log in to Caesar it says I'm not enrolled in classes yet.
How are section assignments made? Are they random?

Re: Northwestern '11
I would guess that section assignments are random. There certainly didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to them last year (all the classes are the same, and at the same times save for a few CLR sections).
I'd also guess that the section assignments will be out on Aug. 6th, when course bidding begins for 2L's and 3L's.

The folk lore is that they try to spread out people with Wigmore Scholarships, JD/MBAs, and people with similar backgrounds among the different sections. I think they also shuffle people based on LSAT score and GPA a bit, but this is just from casual conversations with administration.

Wouldn't a random distribution accomplish this?BlueDevilSarah wrote:The folk lore is that they try to spread out people with Wigmore Scholarships, JD/MBAs, and people with similar backgrounds among the different sections. I hope I'm the biggest splitter in my section then.

One would think, but you know how law types always want to have their hands in things.mumbling2myself wrote:Wouldn't a random distribution accomplish this?BlueDevilSarah wrote:The folk lore is that they try to spread out people with Wigmore Scholarships, JD/MBAs, and people with similar backgrounds among the different sections. True 'nuf. In any event, within those classes of incoming 1L's, I'd bet the assignment is random. It's not like they say, "Oh, people with JD/MBA's should all be in Redish's civ pro section."BlueDevilSarah wrote:One would think, but you know how law types always want to have their hands in things.mumbling2myself wrote:Wouldn't a random distribution accomplish this?BlueDevilSarah wrote:The folk lore is that they try to spread out people with Wigmore Scholarships, JD/MBAs, and people with similar backgrounds among the different sections. Nope, they're only subject 1/4 of them to him....and it's probably the ones who sounded more full of themselves in their personal statements

LOL. I'm sure they're stacking his sections with everyone who wrote a PS about how they want to go to law school to change the law because every damn case ever decided in the history of history has been fatally flawed, and only geniuses like them could possibly set the legal world straight.BlueDevilSarah wrote:Nope, they're only subject 1/4 of them to him....and it's probably the ones who sounded more full of themselves in their personal statements

Do those reasons have anything to do with TRAAAAAADITION!!!!? I thought it seemed like it would be an ok class... maybe you know something I don't. Otherwise I'd second your recommendations. I've heard Tiller mostly reads from his slides in lecture - either a plus or a minus depending on how you learn, I guess.I would avoid the Contract Drafting class, however, for reasons I'd prefer not to elaborate on publicly.

Thank you very much for your reply.TTT-LS wrote:I don't know that there is a segregated list of LLM courses. I think you will be able to get just about as much information as is available on CAESAR (log in, and then click on "fall class schedule").Arnaud wrote:Do you know where I could find the precise list of colisted courses? On the website, I do not understand everything.
Prof. Cohn is supposed to be really good as far as her negotiations class. I haven't had it, though some of the others on here may have had her this summer, so perhaps they can comment. As for the Business Law & Contract class, again I haven't had Tiller, but I think other NU TLS people have. Probably a good foundational course to take, though. I would avoid the Contract Drafting class, however, for reasons I'd prefer not to elaborate on publicly.Besides, could you give me your opinion about my preliminary list of courses that I have chosen? I fear that the latter is too ambitious with three final exams in the second half.
Indeed, in addition to the two mandatory courses in the first semester (taking the assumption that there is no waiver), I intend to take Negotiations with Lynn Cohn and the colisted Business Law and Contract for the first semester.
No idea about Lutz, but Presser is manageable and a nice guy. Those seem like good classes to take. Moreover, for the second semester, I would like to take Securities course with Horwich, M & A and Structuring Transactions with Lutz and the colisted Corporations with Presser. Do you think this is manageable for me? These teachers have an extraordinary reputation and it is difficult for me to integrate your LLM without choosing these courses.
To be honest, this choice of subject is a real Chinese puzzle because I heard that taking negotiations and mediations could allow me to obtain a certificate which could be useful. However, in this case, I would not be able to choose all the materials I want in Corporate Law…
Would somebody know more about this famous certificate?

Negotiation and mediation, in addition to being applicable courses for just about any attorney, are the requisite courses to become a licensed mediator (which I've heard doesn't look bad on a resume, and opens up a new career avenue/option for additional income if you have any interest in working as a court appointed mediator).
Here is some further information. If there are other classes that interest you more, I would speak to someone involved in the LLM program's administration to see if taking negotiations and mediation are worthwhile for you. My negotiation TA's this summer are both LLM students, so there's at least some interest in the program; in fact, if you'd like to PM me your info I can see if they'd be willing to email you about the program and an LLM's perspective on it.

ick. what a godawful game indy v washington must be. as a ravens fan who has spent a good deal of time near dc, i am confident in saying that skins fans may be the most obnoxious sports fans on planet earth.
holy sh!t. george will just admitted that he doesn't know how to use e-mail. drink twice.

I will be around and social during this period, but will not warrant that no Early Times will be drunk. I will not, however, intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly consume Early Times. Negligent consumption on the part of myself or others is an entirely different matter, especially with regards to getting 0L's drunk.TTT-LS wrote:Please note that this will not (in contrast to last year) involve drinking ANY Early Times.
