Re: NYU Law Class of 2011
Sunday, August 24th is the first day of Orientation, right? Is there anything we need to attend on campus before that, or am I safe in regarding the 24th as The First Day of Law School?

Seeing as the 23rd is move-in, I doubt there's anything formal that we are required to attend.

I am not that computer literate. I have a desktop that I use to surf and word process. I wanted to know if anyone else thought the T60 that the school is offering is a good deal. I know that it doesn't have all the fire power that you could get right now, but it seemed resonable to me due to the 3yr warranty w/ protection plus and that the school has its own technicians. Plus I will take advantage of the no interest deferred payment. I just don't want to get hosed, but the peace of mind they are selling is enticing.

At first glance, it seems "okay". If you're just going to do surfing and word processing it should be fine. Personally, I'd look around to see if I could get a better deal, since computer prices are constantly dropping.cup wrote:I am not that computer literate. You may find the 1 GB of RAM irritatingly slow, the hard drive small, and the processor out of date, however. For example, the computer store website, offers a Dell Latitude D630 with overall much better specifications for $1075. (Look under School Recommended Systems -> General Back to School systems, you'll need to sign in with your netid to see it).
http://www.bookstores.nyu.edu/computer.store/
So, overall, I'd say that the "recommended" system is overpriced, and they're likely either making a lot of money or ordered too much of those in the past.

Re: NYU Law Class of 2011
If you are looking for windows based, you can definitely get some better deals with the same warranty. There is a link to Dell off of the NYU Store for students, and you get some really nice deals on a few systems, plus a 12% discount.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Just put in all your information. They'll match it to your NYU NetID and update it in the system.

So there's that PDF floating around from Financial Services that compares 4 GradPLUS lenders side by side. Are those the 4 most popular ones? Can I just choose based on the info there, or do I really need to do my homework, call each bank, etc?

No clue UD...
My question is... can anyone tell me how to write out the new addresses? I'm pretty sure I understand, but say I live in 666 Mercer... what would my address be for getting mail?

I think that PDF is outdated. You might need to do something worthwhile and check into the individual banks. I recommend Wachovia if you plan on borrowing the whole lot. Comes out to $25k less than the nearest competitor for the life of the loan (10 years).

Hey do you guys know how to link the Mail program in Mac (or Outlook or whatever) to your NYU e-mail addy? It doesn't work for me; what do we put for "Incoming Mail Server"? I've tried nyu.edu and email.nyu.edu and law.nyu.edu...

You didn't get some message saying that they couldn't validate the mail server?

Try re-entering your username and password. Make sure CAPS LOCK is off. Remember, username is your NYU NetID, not your email address.

Gahh only outgoing works...does NYU use SSL encoding or whatever? I think I'll just call OIT, but last time I called the school about a computer question they kept transferring me to different departments until I ended up where I started out calling!

I finally found a home. I can't wait until August. Anyway, have you guys received the immunization forms or did you just print them off the website? I want to get all this medical stuff done while I still have insurance at my job.

I wasn't aware we could print them from the website. I know the mailing stated so but when you go to the linked webpage, the form they offer in PDF format stating (in bold, underlined text)
FOR RETURNING STUDENTS ONLY
(New students do not use this form.)
Seems like we need to wait for the next mailing.

Hey - give this a shot:
http://www.nyu.edu/shc/about/immunization.html - there should be two PDF files to the right. Looking forward to meeting you all.

I actually asked about the health forms and received the following response:VaultBound wrote:I wasn't aware we could print them from the website. I know the mailing stated so but when you go to the linked webpage, the form they offer in PDF format stating (in bold, underlined text)

Thank you for your email. You should be receiving the the appropriate
forms shortly in the mail. The Student Health Center will be sending you
the updated information.
Sorry for the confusion.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
