Re: Northwestern '11
This is a stupid question, but since Corsair mentioned ultimate I had to ask it. Does NU have intramurals, or should I look for a soccer league through the city?

NU has teams that get together every so often (I know their basketball leagues were actually very organized this year), but if you're looking for something more competitive or organized for soccer, as far as I know you'll need to look outside the school.

I'm up for playing Ultimate. It's been a while since I last played; I may suck.
As for nights to go out, I'm up for whatever.
Good luck with the move, typodragon. I'm still recovering from my move (packing, cleaning, driving, etc.). I actually ended up hiring a moving company to help me unload my stuff. That was probably the best $150 I've ever spent.

Just to unload the stuff? curious. Never heard of anyone doing that, though I guess it makes sense. how much stuff did you have? i went cheap and bought a little dolly at home depot for 25 bucks.MrRobot wrote:Good luck with the move, typodragon. Yep, just to unload. I had a full 17' truck, though part of that was my motorcycle. Prior to loading my U-Haul I had never heard of any companies that would help someone unload a truck. The company eMove had an advertisement placed inside the U-Haul tuck, and that service was exactly what I was thinking I needed. I have to give them props, that was perfect product/service placement. They ended up connecting me with a local Chicago moving company.
I used the same Home Depot dolly to load the truck, but I was too exhausted to unload the next day after driving all night. It seems as if you have more time to rest, so I'm guessing you'd be OK. BTW, the $150 was for two hours. It only took us one hour to unload the 17' truck.

I don't know how my dad and I did it all ourselves (10' truck in 1.5 hours), but somehow we managed and we still like each other afterwards. Moving this past week was a little different.....I think I lost a few friends over it
. Moving company may be your best bet.

seriously? how much stuff do you have? my brother and I packed and loaded our truck on monday in a little under 5 hours in 100+ heat index. the "feels like" index on weather.com for chicago doesn't even reach 80 for today's forecast. I'm expecting this to be a picnic by comparison. assuming I don't die in a fiery car crash on the way in that is.BlueDevilSarah wrote:I don't know how my dad and I did it all ourselves (10' truck in 1.5 hours), but somehow we managed and we still like each other afterwards. Eh, it's not that I have so much stuff so much as it's that my stuff that I do have is pretty heavy. Also, moving up stairs as opposed to using an elevator - very different game. The weather has been cooler the past few days, but it was pretty unbearable for a while there last week. We'll do our best to keep it pleasant until you get here.

They just updated the orientation page! Yay!

(Edit: perhaps it had been there a while and I had only just noticed to click on "Information for Incoming JD Students").

I think some people are planning to meet up at the museum for contemporary art. Check the facebook page.

indeed we did. but that's over now. i've got a stack of books I brought with me that I intend to read for relaxation while I wait for the registrar's office to send me a letter saying that i've made some kind of horrible mistake and am not actually going to law school. I started reading the Iliad and got lost on page 2. I need to brush up on my critical reading skills.kerplunk wrote:I think some people are planning to meet up at the museum for contemporary art. It's basically a huge interview fest for people interested in patent prosecution at large firms. BDS has about a million interviews, so she'll probably be busy with that.MrRobot wrote:What's the "Loyola patent thing?"BlueDevilSarah wrote:Thursday's not good for people doing the Loyola patent thing

I see. I was hoping it was a patent law class or something. I'm studying for the Patent Bar right now.mumbling2myself wrote:It's basically a huge interview fest for people interested in patent prosecution at large firms.
