Nope, I was actually looking for that yesterday. I would've figured they'd have given us a place to pay it online by this time.

Also, I've had two e-mails not responded to at all in the past month. One to Career Services (perhaps with the new director, it's a bit hectic right now) and one to the Network Services department. This is a pretty big deviation from my first few times communicating with them, and it concerns me just a bit. I hope the people on the admissions staff aren't the only ones who are easy to communicate with.

I think it's because the school is closed now right? I remember reading something about parts of the school being closed because of the need to finish construction? And maybe they deserve a 2 week break to not answer emails after finals? Just pondering, but still, it would make some semblance of sense. By the way, Marlins v. Cardinals, in St. Louis, start of September, COULD have playoff implications, you coming with me SMC?

Of course I'll be there! I've already got plans to go to the Braves and Brewers series there.

And the e-mail to CSO was in the first week of April. Granted the network services e-mail was last week, so you may be right there.

hmm...but I will say that maybe the CSO only has obligations to those who are paying tuition and not freaking out 0L's that are still the responsibility of the Admissions office?

I guess maybe I should start paying attention to this thread.

I should probably start looking at apartments, as I'm going to be gone for most of the summer. Do people usually have singles or find roommates? Also, where did you start your apartment search?

I'm so behind the times on such things.

I haven't decided if i want a single or a roommate yet, i guess if anyone contacts me from the roommate questionnaire thing i'd talk to them and consider it. As for apartment searching in general...try http://www.apartments.com to find buildings you might like, also, craigs list is a popular way to go about it...

Yeah, I even thought about that. I can definitely see them thinking "We have a lot more important things to worry about than talking to someone who isn't even officially a student, yet."

I was just hoping they would at least respond with something, even if it was along those lines. I just get so pissed off at people who neglect to respond.

They aren't allowed to contact 1L's until November 1. Maybe you count as a 1L in their book right now? That's a stretch.

Has anybody contact WashU regarding how to pay the second deposit online? As far as I can tell there is still no link on the Admitted Students page to pay the deposit. I don’t want to call them unnecessarily if somebody has already inquired.

I e-mailed the admissions office today and got a reply.
The link will be available on our website at the end of the week. Thank you.

I am considering Wash U and I’m hoping that people on this thread can convince me into it, especially people who thought about equally/higher ranked schools. What made you choose Wash U and what was the tipping point? Do you really think that it will be hard to find a job outside of the Midwest after school? What do you think about the prestige issue? PM me if you like, but I would love to hear your perspective. Thanks.

What made me choose WashU over similarly ranked schools -- To be honest, it was the money

Will it be hard to find a job outside of the Midwest -- 2/3rds of their class goes to work outside MO, with something like 15% going to NYC, if I remember correctly. From the chat transcript on their website, they said that a lot of students end up going back to where they came from for work (i.e., if you're from California and you want to work in CA you won't have much trouble). I'm indifferent to working in Chicago, NYC, or Boston, and since it seems like a lot of wustl students can place into Chicago, I'm not concerned at all (I grew up in MA and went to college in NYC, so I figure it'll be fine. Who knows, really )

Prestige Issue -- Lawyer/Judge prestige has Wustl ranked around 18th for this year (up from 20th). I don't think there is a prestige issue. You can see the ranking list on Leiter. I don't have the link on-hand but it's somewhere in the ND vs WUSTL thread.

I was just surfing the web looking at professor lateral moves and here is the conclusion:

WashU gains 6 new lateral professors.

WashU loses none (It seems like Professor Christopher Bracey is only visiting GW, when I did a faculty search at GW, I could not find his profile in visiting or perm faculty, so I assume the visiting term has ended already)

WashU has 3 professors visiting other institutions, 2 at Michigan and 1 at Stanford, while gaining what looked like 6-8 visiting faculty.

Interesting info that I thought the rest of you wustl prospectives might be interested in, Cheers!

I, like lukertin, chose Wash U largely for the money. As of this point, it is actually the highest ranked school I got into, and, save for a few schools in the 50s-60s, it was the best scholarship I got.

But when I visited the school, it pretty much made my decision for me (along with waitlists from Vandy and Cornell  ). The professors, dean and current students all seemed like people I would enjoy spending the next 3 years around, plus I had fun with some of the other admitted students there, too.

It also helps that I have almost no opinion on where I want to work after graduation. The midwest (and St. Louis, in particular) seems just fine to me. Seeing as how I didn't have a particular geographic area in mind, it made the most sense to me to just go to some combination of the best school I got into with the best scholarship. Considering what I said earlier in this post, you can see why it was pretty much a no-brainer for me.

Yea, the money is pretty enticing.

I don't really care where I end up after law school, but my preference is away from the Midwest (Chicago is the exception). I am concerned about the lucrative non-big law jobs, like clerkships, civil servant positions, and international agencies that typically recruit from the best.

I like Wash U a lot, but can't figure out if the money/prestige really matters in the long run, and that's why I originally posted on this thread. Thoughts?

If you really want to get away from the Midwest, then certainly that gives your other options a little more weight. As has been said, you can definitely get anywhere from Wash U, but your chances of going to bigger markets away from the Midwest aren't as good as a lot of other schools, at least from best I can tell. I haven't done loads of research on it, because it doesn't concern me all that much. But others have and seem to have come to this conclusion.

Hey everyone. I'm still on a couple waitlists, but as of yesterday I've officially chosen WUSTL among my current options.
