Yeah, only 2 bars in Westwood - O'Hara's (formerly Maloney's) and BrewCo. O'Hara's has liter night Tuesdays ($4) but it's best to arrive before 10 or there's a line. Personally, I prefer BrewCo. It's not that great of an atmosphere but it's fun to be around a bunch of other students, and there's karaoke and comedy and stuff. There's also a restaurant called Palomino's that has happy hour after 10 pm. There's the W, but drinks are ridiculously expensive (about $15/drink). There's a place called Busby's (on Santa Monica) that has a free limo-bus you can call and pick you up from your apartment in Westwood on Thursdays. If you want to go somewhere a little nicer, there are a ton of clubs and bars on Sunset. However, you'd have to take a cab for those. Cabs in LA are rare and expensive so share with as many people as possible.Rolloss wrote:I heard there are only two bars in Westwood. Is that right? Where does everybody go on weekends? Do they drive into other parts of LA? I really like having a variety of bars of in walking distance, I think I'm spoiled too.sarahs5 wrote:I went to UCLA for undergrad so feel free to ask me any questions about UCLA or Westwood.

One of the people I talked to at the ASW said she lives in University Apartments south which are some of the apartments about 4-5 miles south of campus. They're still subsidized through UCLA so it's a lot cheaper than other places but you'd definitely not want to walk to the law building from there. She said the places are pretty nice there and they're close to downtown Culver City. The shuttle runs daily and takes about 30-35 mins to get to campus. Sounds like those places might be a good option to keep in mind as well!

yea but there's a big hill to go anywhere on campussarahs5 wrote:
yeah, it's a straight path from wilshire to campus, but once on campus, there's a big hill to get to north campus where the law school is. dude, i dunno, south of wilshire seems kinda far to walk everyday. big blue bus might be an option though.

i dunno if the campus shuttle runs along westwood or not but it might. i know it runs between campus and weyburn though for the truely lazy.
i hate waiting for buses so id rather just walk even if its south of wilshire. i used to walk to friends' apartments over in that area all the time and didn't seem too awful compared to walking back to my westwood apartment on top of a giantic hill.

I think people that live over there or in Palms should just get parking on campus and drive to class. or i would anyway. i worked part time 2 miles away from campus one quarter and id waste an hour or more of my life everyday just waiting for the bus that was supposed to come every 15 minutes but never did.snlink wrote:One of the people I talked to at the ASW said she lives in University Apartments south which are some of the apartments about 4-5 miles south of campus. The good news for people taking the bus/shuttle is that they'll take you right up the hill across from the law school and it shouldn't be more than a 2-3 min walk!

Do most people have their final financial award offers yet? If so, how long after getting your ePAL did it take to get your final award?

I got my provisional letter couple months ago but nothing official yet. Supposedly the final award is supposed to be in May so hopefully it comes soon.

Does anyone know if the powers that be pair law students with other law students at Weyburn? I requested a studio, but received a 2bed. No offense to any of you, but I'd rather not be with another 1L.

I think its random but I'm not sure. Got to the housing website and submit it as a question. Do you know someone thats not in law school that's going to live in Weyburn that you wouldn't mind living with? If you mutually request each other to be roommates then it's a sure way of not getting a law student.bob loblaw wrote:Does anyone know if the powers that be pair law students with other law students at Weyburn? I would send rob schwartz an e-mail and explain the situation. It sounds like he keeps in pretty regular contact with the scholarship committee. Hopefully they can do something for you!

Link doesn't work for me either. It looks like some type of server/database error.

Does anyone know if there are cheap student tickets for the football/basketball games? I know we won't have much free time, but it would be fun to go to some games!

I am so stoked to see the basketball games in person. I was rooting for them in the tournament for good karma to be admitted.
