I wanted the F for the extra three feet but got C3 on the 19th floor. 12x12 isn't the end of the world but I'd like that extra room.

mmg and others looking for places off-campus...I'm game!

Edit: Any news whether these assignments can be changed? I'd be willing to swap with someone who has a bigger place and (for some ridiculous reason) wants the smaller one. HAHA

NOW THIS IS GOOD INFORMATION!

I'm in a F1 in Mercer...

So did everyone get their 4th choice for housing or what? Did everyone submit on May 15?

Don't remember my exact choices but I know that C3 would have been down the list.

My choice would have been like #11 on my list.

It wasn't anything that I listed, most assuredly.

But, I can't really complain about it. Other than the fact that it costs and arm and a leg...

Male, non-smoker, very social, messy in my personal space, neat in shared spaces. I'd be willing to live with a guy or girl.

I am also looking for a roommate I'd be willing to move to the West Village or Greenwich Village. I'm also a male, non-smoker, neat in all spaces.

I got one of my last choices. Its about 1k more expensive than what I was hoping I would get. Oh well.

Anyone know if the D'ag room numbers indicate which side of the building you're on?

Key
Sub-type 1=Mercer Street View/Quietest side of the building
Sub-type 2=3rd Street View/Louder than the Mercer Street View and quieter than the Broadway View
Sub-type 3=Broadway View/Loudest side of the building.
This is included in the rates/options page for Mercer. No mention of differentiation for D'Ag.

wow i did not know that people pay more to be on the quieter side of the building. silly me thought the price differential on a particular level was due to size or floor plan.

I've been looking at lenders, and it looks like Sallie Mae/Nellie Mae offers a pretty good little package. No origination fee, .25% off if auto-enrolled, and a rebate down the road...

Thoughts?

i've been trying to get an answer from nellie mae, but im pretty sure that's an outdated offer which is no longer available. in fact, a number of lenders still seem to have old info on their websites.

but let me know if you get a definitive answer from them.

i may just wait a few weeks and see if the different lenders update their websites. being out of the country makes it hard to call and get real info.

I haven't looked into any of the loans stuff. Is that bad? We work on our Stafford loans once the school mails us something this month, right? Should I be looking into private loans already?

Do you even NEED a private loan? I mean, will the stafford max cover + whatever the school is giving you cover your costs? If you do, wouldn't a grad plus loan be better than a private loan anyway?

Yeah I need an extra loan, and by "private", I meant Grad-Plus.

Did any of you choose NYU over Chicago? If so, why? After getting in recently after being deferred, that's the decision with which I'm struggling...

What kind of law do you want to go into? If you want to be a professor or something, Chicago is probably better.

I chose NYU over Chicago($20k/3yrs). I don't want to go into academia. I think NYU is better for most other career prospects, especially firm jobs. NYU is also located in New York, which for me is a big plus over Chicago because I probably want to practice in NY. If not NY, then DC or Philly, and NYU places very well on the East Coast. I also spoke to a few lawyer/partners and law school professors. They all advised NYU over Chicago, and a few also suggested NYU over Columbia, while the rest said NYU and Columbia were even. This was enough for me.

Location is also much better. Village vs. Hyde Park.

I went through the bank websites last night, off of a financial aid website link. Most of the fees are 2.5%-3%, but some of the lenders offer no origination fees according to the sites. Wachovia seems to have a new plan that does this, though the website says mixed things, and then I saw the Nellie Mae with the rebate down the road...

Everything I start looking at this stuff I feel a sense of dread and panic. It is soooo much $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
