I'm 'planning' on coming at the start of August so I can set up my apartment which I started looking for yet, and get everything else straightened up.

I'm moving up either the last weekend of July or the first weekend of August. I'm sick of working and am really ready to get up there and enjoy the city some before school starts.

Hmm...now, Mr. SMC, by 'enjoy the city' do you mean doing some of the things we discussed earlier in this thread? Because i think I could venture over to St. Louie to partake in that with you

Oh, you know it, my friend. The Lumiere is calling me. I also am going to go to a couple of Cards games and get to know Forest Park a little bit. I really want to experience these things before I have heavy work loads awaiting me every night.hwmyones wrote:Hmm...now, Mr. SMC, by 'enjoy the city' do you mean doing some of the things we discussed earlier in this thread? And you should definitely venture on over. Partake, we shall.

and from the way finals are looking, I'll have plenty of leftover bottles from this year for us to...use as appetizers?

Whats up people,
I am going to be at WUSTL this Fall and I am new to this site. I have never been to STL and currently live in Philadelphia. Wondering if people have already snatched up lodging and/or if people are going to the Housing Day in June?
Also, it seems to be quite some chatter about philly on this post; if there are any others local to the philly area, I would be interested in meeting up (or out - happy hour?) to get a brief preview of the fall.
Lastly, I am enthused as it seems that I will be joined by a fair number of fellow soccer fans in the fall (with exception of chelsea and liverpool supporters).

Welcome RedDevil.
3 things:
1) As far as housing goes, a few people (myself included) have looked at places and, in my case, even put down a deposit. A number of others, though, haven't looked yet and are looking toward the housing days in June and/or July to secure an apartment. So you're definitely not behind or anything in regards to housing.
2) I can tell that we won't be sports friends. Not only am I an unabashed soccer hater and basher, but Philly sports teams are amongst my least favorite (although I am rooting for the Sixers against Detroit, but that's entirely because of my hatred for the Pistons)
3) Just because we can't be sports friends doesn't mean we can't be real life friends. Welcome again, and I look forward to meeting you in the fall.

Well thanks for all the prompt responses and useful info; it is nice to hear that I am not lagging behind in terms of housing.
And SMC, an overwhelming number of my friends are some of the worst soccer bashers ever, so I think we will be able to put our differences aside.
Also, while I currently reside in Philly, I am originally from Maryland (DC Metro area) and besides the Cowboys (and some soccer teams, which I am not going to mention) the Eagles and the rest of the philly teams are without a doubt definitely next on my shit list (and right behind them are their fans).
With that said, I am going to get back to the streaming video of the Champions League game (Chelsea - Pool overtime!!!) on my desktop at work and hope I don't get caught and be forced to move to STL prematurely.

I care about everything but hockey. I'm a tottenham fan. As for Philly, well, sorry. My best friend here is a philly sports fan and he's fun to mock. Welcome to the group!

You know what is an exciting sport? Nascar! I really don't see what the big excitement is about overgrown sweaty men trying to get some ball into a goal of some sort.

Nascar is cool, but any sport where the condition of your equipment is more of a factor than the condition of your body is...well not really a sport now is it?

I was joking around. I don't consider Nascar a sport. Figure skating is more of a sport than Nascar. Nascar is as much of a sport as are the video games people play professionally.RedDevil4Life wrote:Nascar is cool, but any sport where the condition of your equipment is more of a factor than the condition of your body is...well not really a sport now is it?

Hey, if you live in Philly and hate the fans you gotta be all right. I remember a couple years back when the Cards were beating the Phillies in the season opener over there, and the fans actually started to boo their own team on opening day! Big soccer fan myself, and like you I'm a big Man U fan in the Premiership. And I hate Chelsea more than any team with the exception of AC Milan. Can't stand Milan. So I'll be watching that final intently, hoping the devils deliver.RedDevil4Life wrote:Well thanks for all the prompt responses and useful info; it is nice to hear that I am not lagging behind in terms of housing.

That's nothing, in NYC they booed everytime A-Rod came out, during the play-offs no less. Now ain't that something?BJK1903 wrote:Hey, if you live in Philly and hate the fans you gotta be all right. Yeah, but I can kind of understand that frustration, given the drop-off in his performance as soon as October rolls around. I still don't think its justified, given that they probably wouldn't make the playoffs if he weren't around, but at least there was a somewhat legitimate beef there. Booing your team for losing the first game of a 162 game season? Uncalled for. Don't get me wrong though, I think Yankees fans suck too. Just not as much as Phillies or BoSox fans. I'd even say Cubs fans are worse, but that might be because I'm a Cards fan and I have to deal with Cubs fans often.lukertin wrote:That's nothing, in NYC they booed everytime A-Rod came out, during the play-offs no less. Once I went to NYY-BOS game in Yankee stadium, it was 2005 (year after Red Sox broke their drought). It was near the end of the season, and at that time there was no way Boston was going to make the playoffs, but in that particular game, A-rod went like 0-3 and the entire pockets of the stadium were booing him everytime he swung and missed. The Yankees had already(!) clinched the AL East at that time, too.BJK1903 wrote:Yeah, but I can kind of understand that frustration, given the drop-off in his performance as soon as October rolls around. Not to mention some drunk dumbass started yelling at the top of his voice telling some guy wearing a Mets cap to "Get the F** back to Queens so you can be gay like a drag queen where you belong" I had gotten bleacher seats but since the game was rain-postponed to the next day, the stadium was 3/4ths full so we wandered down and some jackass threatened to call security over and check our tickets if we didn't stop rooting for the Red Sox.
Then he made some crap up about how if he were in Fenway, he'd be sent to the hospital as a result of getting beat, which was patently ridiculous.

I'm going to have to go ahead and say that Marlins fans are the worst fans...because they're not there. But, I mean..only the Yankees have more world series than us in the last 10 years. So, no complaints. Plus, we're still tied for the lead in the NL East...although we choked against the Dodgers

At least when the Marlins go the WS, the local newspaper doesn't post a front page article explaining baseball and its rules....like in Arizonahwmyones wrote:I'm going to have to go ahead and say that Marlins fans are the worst fans...because they're not there.
