I got an email confirming that I will be living at the Villa Apartments! Anyone know anything about these? Is anyone else out there going to be living there?

Re: Santa Clara University Class of 2011
Congratulations on making it into Villa. I am third on their wait list, though I am doubtful about getting in.
I will be looking around for a place soon as well. Hopefully an apartments within a mile proximity of campus (biking, the new driving) are not too hard to come by. If anyone else is interested in finding a place, please let me know as well.
Good luck to everyone else on the wait lists for the housing.
Out of curiosity, has anyone begun to read horn books on the classes we will be taking, or do you plan on reading any? Just curious. See you all at orientation.

I'm going to wait until we get our assignment for orientation before reading anything. Although, I do have the Criminal Law E&E and I've read like 2 pages.
I plan on enjoying the crap out of this summer!

Go McGeorge! Santa Clara has an inflated reputation as a result of its IP program

I wouldn't say it's that fantastic of a comment. I'm just trying to clear up some misconceptions about Santa Clara Law. The point is that McGeorge is clearly the better school except if you're an engineering major who wants to do IP. That's really all.

Why would an individual freely choose to denigrate a school at which we have all chosen to attend? Let us be happy with the experience about to begin.
Enjoy McGeorge. We will enjoy Santa Clara. Everyone walks away satisfied.
For those of you who will attend SCU in the Fall, where did you do your undergrad? Major? What type of law do you want to practice?
I just graduated from San Diego State with a degree in political science, and am hoping to get into the education side of law, preferably constitutional law.

Why did people here choose Santa Clara over McGeorge, just curious?

I also did UG at a CSU and majored in history. I'm not 100% sure what kind of law I want to practice but I'm interested in civil rights issues and family law. Also lean a lot towards PI work.ancorso wrote: For those of you who will attend SCU in the Fall, where did you do your undergrad? Major? What type of law do you want to practice?

I'm thoroughly excited to attend SCU and I KNOW it was the right choice for me.

Re: Santa Clara University Class of 2011
so do you guys think Santa Clara Law is a step up from CSUs? For example someone who goes to Santa Clara Law (or even McGeorge) from Yale is definitely going a step down. I'm not sure what going from Cal to Santa Clara Law would be...but i'd say its a step down.

If you'd like a more descriptive definition--a place where my friend received summa cum laude in English and she can barely write a paragraph without 5 to 6 grammatical errors.

Re: Santa Clara University Class of 2011
Im actully being very nice...everyone knows that a 3.8 at a Cal State is no where near a 3.8 at a good UC...so its natural for some people to be bitter when law schools are so into improving their USnews ranking that they could care less as to where the GPA score is coming from and in what major. I suppose though, justice is ultimately served in law school performance.

Re: Santa Clara University Class of 2011
So anyway, I guess I'm gonna be living off campus in the fall. I haven't really started looking for a place yet, and I'm currently living out of state so I won't really be around to look in the summer. Has anyone been actively searching the area? What kind of price range would I be looking at for studio/1 bedrooms? I'm also ok with living with roommates, the only thing is I won't be out there in the south bay area until a couple weeks before school starts so anyone I'm living with would have to do all the work finding the place before I even get there.
I think I wrote it before but I'm 24, male, like to cook, pretty clean, and don't smoke (though I don't mind living with smokers). If anyone's interested, send me a message. But if not then I'm ok with living by myself too.

Re: Santa Clara University Class of 2011
sigh.
lishi is my hero.
anyway M, the south bay has tons of great places to live but it is a pretty expensive area.
I remember a few years ago I rented a studio apartment for 600 but I think that kind of price is long gone. Honestly, close to campus can get expensive without roommates.
If you drive, most of San Jose/Campbell is very close to Santa Clara and you can probably find cheaper places.
Have you checked craigslist?

Re: Santa Clara University Class of 2011
Yeah I've been on craigslist, but when I lived in Seattle I always felt like the places advertised on craigslist only represented the mid to higher end places, and when I actually looked around the neighborhoods (at places advertising via signs outside the buildings) I could find places that were a lot cheaper. That was back in seattle though, and I'm not sure if the same applies to santa clara. I don't have a car right now but I'm considering buying one when I get to california. But I've still got time to weigh car cost, apartment cost, and distance from school and see what the most economical options will be for me. Hows public transportation in that area? is the bus system good enough to use for daily commuting from cambell/sanjose/sunnyvale? or would it be better to have a car as a primary means of commuting?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
