Has anyone received financial aid information from Loyola yet? If so, when were you accepted and when did you file your FAFSA?

I was accepted March 8 and got my scholarship info that week. I filled out my FAFSA sometime in the beginning of Feb. (I think). If you're talking about the "official" letter where they talk about stafford's and everything, I haven't gotten that yet.iammyid wrote:Has anyone received financial aid information from Loyola yet? Are you talking about the new admits reception, or whatever they call it? I plan on being there.LBCLawGirl wrote:is anyone attendning the open house on april 11th?

Nope not yet, and I actually sent them my FAFSA info at the end of January, a few days before I was accepted.iammyid wrote:Has anyone received financial aid information from Loyola yet? If so, when were you accepted and when did you file your FAFSA?

Re: Loyola Law School (L.A.) - Class of 2011
Royal Jordan: I think it would be entirely appropriate to ask for a larger scholarship. A 170 on the LSAT is a great score...having that number certainly puts you in a pretty good position to negotiate with them. A lot of times, schools don't necessarily give the highest $ scholarships to people with the highest #'s because they assume that those students will go elsewhere and thus they don't want to tie up all their scholarship money only to have a student withdraw anyway.
If you let them know that you are serious about going to Loyola, you might get a much better offer. Just out of curiosity, where else did you apply? I would think with a 170 you would have a pretty good shot at UCLA/Vanderbilt/Georgetown even with a lower GPA.

RoyalJordan wrote:I am very particular about where I want to go, so for that reason, I only applied to schools on the west coast. I know where I want to practice and there are other reasons for me staying here which puts some limits on the whole process. The way that UCLA is admitting this year with their record # of applications, if you don't have a 3.5+ GPA it doesn't really matter. There's still a chance I will get into USC, but as I haven't heard from them yet, I'm not counting on this. So it basically comes down to Hastings vs. Loyola, and I'd prefer Loyola.
Do you have any suggestions as to how I might approach breaching the subject of more money with them? The tricky thing for me is that I don't want to sound ungrateful because a half scholarship is a lot of money, but the reality is that even with a half scholarship, it's still gonna leave me in some serious debt and I don't want to miss out on some extra money because I was afraid to ask.
Don't worry about sounding ungrateful. When it comes down to it, law school is a business. you gotta negotiate!

I think your best bet would be to write a letter, explaining why you want to go to loyola --what attracts you to the program, etc. Then explain your financial situation --you'd LOVE to be able to go there, but without additional funding it won't be feasible, etc. You really hope to be able to matriculate at loyola, but you have to consider your financial responsibilities, etc. Be sure to include your scores and list any higher-ranked schools you've already gotten into -and MENTION they are ranked higher!
If you have any scholarship letters from other schools (preferably more money, or at least from a higher-ranked school), attach a copy.
hope that helps!!!!! hope to see you at loyola this fall

For people wondering about Financial aid--I applied in January, accepted in late March. Got an offer today.

I hope I get a scholarship. I can't afford to live in my artist loft in Hollywood, go out to Area every Friday night and pay sticker price for Loyola. That would be ridiculous!miranda wrote:For people wondering about Financial aid--I applied in January, accepted in late March. Got an offer today.

Hey hey you finalized it! I haven't received my info yet either and I'm anxiously waiting for that as well. Do you think that they wait until the first seat deadline for people that don't have absurdly high numbers or URM status to see how much money they have to give out from the people who rejected their offers?

Re: Loyola Law School (L.A.) - Class of 2011
Sending in my deposit to Loyola today. I also have yet to receive any financial aid info though I'm still hoping for money. 85% of the class is supposed to receive some sort of financial aid so theres definitely hope.
NOW THE QUESTIONS:
Any of you have an idea of where your going to live? Or a max distance from the school that your willing to drive? Who's going to their open house on April 11? And anyone else looking into gym memberships around the area since the law school has none?
And congrats to everyone and hope to meet you all soon.

I belong to 24 Hr fitness so there are a couple of gyms within a five mile radius of the school.PeanutButterJellyTIME wrote:Sending in my deposit to Loyola today.
