I'm not so reassured by "95% employed at graduation."
I mean, 95% of people with highschool degrees are "employed." National unemployment is only like 5% right?
What percentage of Loyola grads make $100k? I need at least that much to justify taking out all these loans.

Probably not anywhere near 95%, I would guess around the top 10-15%. I wouldn't count on making $100K right out of law school.gm907 wrote:I'm not so reassured by "95% employed at graduation."

Well, on a related question. Am I the only one who wasn't given ANY money? I heard 85% of Loyola students got financial aid, but I got nothing but student loans. I'm assuming loans aren't counted as "aid." That wouldn't make much sense.

Actually most (if not) all schools count loans as aid. Yea it's a crappy technicality, but all the schools do it. Everything does go through the Office of Financial Aid (or Assistance), so that's how the schools justify that.

So schools with low financial aid %s just have a ton of rich students?

Well unfortunately need-based grants and loans don't exist in law school yet (and probably other graduate programs as well). I have an EFC of 0, and I could guarantee you that almost any school I apply too, I would get the same need-based financial aid offer, consisting of just perkins/stafford loans (though obviously some merit-based ones would be higher than others). It sucks, but we have to bite the bullet, take out GradPLUS loans, and repay them in 3 years.

Re: Loyola Law School (L.A.) - Class of 2011
At this time I think we're all pretty much freaking out and scared about loans and employment prospects; but on the upside, I think about all the lawyers I know (in a variety of fields) and none of them are struggling or strapped for cash. One of my best friends recently graduated from a school on the east coast that's ranked in the 90's and she passed the CA bar the first time, found a job at a firm within about 2 months, and makes great money. So, my point is, try not to worry too much or place too much weight on rankings or location. What really matters is how well you do in school, the connections you make, the experience you get, etc. If we work hard, I truly belief we'll be rewarded, and I think Loyola will offer us a lot of opportunities!

Hey guys,
I too will be attending in the fall.
In terms of orientation, I called the admissions office yesterday; they said that first day of classes will be August 18th and that orientation would be the week prior. So, if it eats up the entire week, that means orientation will start on August 11th. Hope this is helpful (and accurate!!).
See ya there!

Welcome aboard! It seems like we have a nice group of people going to Loyola. Glad someone got the starting date, it seemed odd to me that that info isn't already on their website.franka wrote:Hey guys,

Nah no email address yet. Maybe when we send our second deposit?
Did you fill out the financial aid form (where you select your lenders) on LLS website? Cause if you did that, you probably don't need your estimated award letter anymore. Actually nix that 'cause you got the public scholarship award. I'd just email fin aid and ask.

One other question. Anyone else get lots of money from a lower ranked school? Why didn't you take it?

Re: Loyola Law School (L.A.) - Class of 2011
The official orientation dates have been posted on the LLS blog (I think only the first day of class date was posted previously):
http://blog.lls.edu/newadmits/2008/05/i ... dates.htmlOrientation is scheduled for August 11 - August 15 and classes will begin on August 18.
Orientation is mandatory, failure to attend may result in your space in the class being withdrawn.
Additional details, including your section assignment, will be sent via an Orientation Packet in July.
Also, the second seat deposit is due no later than Monday, June 2nd. You should be receiving a mailing within the next week with an Enrollment Confirmation form and instructions for submitting the second deposit.

Why? McGeorge isn't a bad school. I got into both Loyola and McGeorge and chose McGeorge$$$.publicservant101 wrote:yayyyy now let's go whomp kevsocko for his mcgeorge comment!(wish there was an angel face)

You definitely won't have worse career prospects. I don't know my fellow Loyola 0Ls hide from the reality, that Loyola is a money grubbing diploma mill.Katdaddy wrote:Why? What are we getting at Loyola that he's not getting at McGeorge?PeanutButterJellyTIME wrote:Go LAKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Come on let's not delude ourselves.
Edit: If you're talking about the location, then that's plausibly an advantage (although LA is also a lot more expensive), but as far as the education and job prospects the two schools are equal.

Really? Have you looked seriously at these two schools from a variety of different sources? I'm not saying that McGeorge is a bad school, but these two schools are not equal. The education you'll get is different and there are a lot more job opportunities for students at LLS than there are at McGeorge.Edit: If you're talking about the location, then that's plausibly an advantage (although LA is also a lot more expensive), but as far as the education and job prospects the two schools are equal.
From your posts, you don't seem that excited about Loyola. I'm curious, why did you choose it over other schools?

Clerkships and AM250 placement? Both schools only place the top 10%.

Heck, Univ. of San Francisco places better than Loyola.
Starting salaries? Both schools have a tiny minority making six figures, and everyone else making much less.
Bar passage rate? 75% Loyola, 73% McGeorge
Professors? How do you prove this?
Location? I don't know about McGeorge but Loyola is in the middle of a slum. They couldn't even let us go to school on the scenic undergraduate campus.
At least McGeorge doesn't admit 450 students every year, and at least they give their students some money. Loyola is a greedy diploma mill. Every year they herd in as many students as possible, and then herd them out with a ton of debt, and a tier 3 law degree.
Why are you exaggerating their value?
