Sooo-- I just moved all of my stuff out to South Bend this weekend!!! It is finally starting to feel real!!!
I'm still back in the suburbs this week working, but will most likely be there for good next week if anyone else is there and wants to meet up

Y'know how they say you should sit back and relax the summer before 1L? I am so not doing that. My last day of work was supposed to be this Friday, but I decided to work through Saturday to get some last second overtime. I plan on leaving sometime Sunday so I can make it to South Bend by Tuesday morning to sign the lease on my apartment and meet the movers.

I'm in town if anyone wants to get together. I have nothing to do before class starts so I'm going to try to enjoy a few nights out. Let me know.

Re: Notre Dame Class of 2011
Does anyone know anything about the Tuesday Thursday schedule? I have only figured out that the three main classes I have are MWF.
And who else out there is a college football fan? I am excited about season tickets and tailgating! (We should be able to not study for 1 day a week, right?)

If you can't learn enough from studying 5-6 days a week, I don't think 7 is going to make it happen...adkhu55 wrote:Does anyone know anything about the Tuesday Thursday schedule? I have only figured out that the three main classes I have are MWF.

At least, that's my theory, which is why I'm reserving all my fridays and saturdays for fun up until it comes down to the wire!
As far as tuesday/thursday, maybe they're still balancing all that stuff out?

Same - I certainly don't plan on studying on days I don't have class. Or Fridays, either. Well in undergrad, I didn't study at all, but that probably is why my ugpa sucks as much as it does.edgarderby wrote:If you can't learn enough from studying 5-6 days a week, I don't think 7 is going to make it happen...

Re: Notre Dame Class of 2011
Two questions:
1) What are my chances on being admitted to Notre Dame or a couple schools within the 17- 25 range?
3.23 GPA
LSAT- received 165-170 on pre-tests. Plan on taking prep course as well.
URM
4 years WE (non-related)
Few good softs and EC's
Major- Political Science, Minor- Economics
Big state school
first generation college graduate
2) As you see my GPA falls under the 25 percentile for most schools I want to get into, but my first few semesters of college I only passed a few classes. Subsequently I dropped out of college for four years and worked. Excelled in my position at work but due to the "market" eventually got laid off (subprime lender). Realized I wanted to go to law school and since my return to school my GPA has been 3.8 (3.93 for major). How much do adcomms take this into consideration and look the other way on my "true GPA"?
I know this thread is geared towards admitted students, but any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Notre Dame Class of 2011
1) I don't think you will have any trouble getting into at least a few of the 15 and below ranked schools, presuming you reach an LSAT at or above the 165ish range. URM goes a long way in the admissions process, and if you check out lawschoolnumbers.com, you'll see evidence of this in ND's admission figures for URM candidates. Depending on your URM, your chances could be from borderline to virtually outright guaranteed acceptance.jzaragoza21 wrote:Two questions:

2) I had a lousy first semester that required an addendum attached to my application, but I knew that I couldn't expect my overall GPA to be overlooked, but rather simply hoped that my capabilities as a student wouldn't be underestimated. I think this is the approach you'll have to take. Don't expect it to change the way they look at your GPA, except to the degree that your GPA doesn't make you look like an idiot. In other words, your less than stellar GPA won't boost their numbers anymore by them knowing the circumstances in which it was achieved.
Best of luck.

Yep, I was walking around campus yesterday when it hit me that I was going to be sitting in class for the first time in three years. A bit scary, but hey, it's better than work.LauraMarie wrote:Soooo with all the excitement of moving to South Bend, is anyone else freaking out that we are actually going to be sitting in a classroom in less than two weeks! I have 8 AM's Mon, Tue, Wed. I get too sleep in a bit on Thurs/Fri (~11 AM).LauraMarie wrote:Yupp- and someone must hate me because I have 8 am class 4 days a week!!
History has proven that I fail miserably at 8am's. Ah well, at least it's a fairly consistent schedule.

Re: Notre Dame Class of 2011
Someone mentioned above that they found all their books, *previous editions*, on Amazon for around $61. Has anyone contacted a prof and verified that previous editions are OK - I can't imagine that they change much, if at all, but I am a bit wary.
For example the Studies in Contracts book is $144 at the ND bookstore, $130 on amazon, or if you get the 6th edition instead of 7th, you can get a used copy for $3.50!
What is everyone doing? Amazon or ND bookstore? My schedule looked like approx $580 from the ND bookstore...
11 days and counting...

Re: Notre Dame Class of 2011
Profs always say to get the latest editions. I never did this in undergrad, and never once did I regret not having a new edition. Most of the editions come out annually...if there was that recent of a case assigned, I'm sure you could just read it in the library. Most of the basics of law have been the same since the 19th century, so there's isn't that much that is going to differ from an edition that came out in 2005 instead of 2008.adkhu55 wrote:Someone mentioned above that they found all their books, *previous editions*, on Amazon for around $61. I guess I'm one of the "lucky" ones that starts at 11am TR, but I'd rather start at the same time every day, to be honest.
