Re: Columbia Law Class of 2011
Here's another question to try to tease out the magical housing assignment formula- did any of you who now have housing submit any changes to your initial application, either before or after the deadline?

Re: Columbia Law Class of 2011
I made two changes, one a week after submitted and another about three weeks after submission. I got my housing on Monday. So, I dont think changes affected the timing.caits wrote:Here's another question to try to tease out the magical housing assignment formula- did any of you who now have housing submit any changes to your initial application, either before or after the deadline?

Re: Columbia Law Class of 2011
I just got my assignment this morning (apt share in law school student only building), I am sooo happy because this was my first choice (though I would have preferred a 2 bedroom rather than a 3 bedroom) and also I did make a change to my app maybe 1 1/2 weeks after submitting. Hope everyone else gets theirs soon..

Alright, another question: did the status change on your housing application status page at the same time as you got the email? An email from CLS didn't come through to me a little while ago, so I'm paranoid about the housing email and checking the status checker every day...

the status does change, it tells you when the offer was sent and when it expires

My status checker was updated after I received the approved email.caits wrote:Alright, another question: did the status change on your housing application status page at the same time as you got the email? ...but I think the status checker updates once a day, so changes might not show up until the next day.

Re: Columbia Law Class of 2011
Awesome, thanks. Once a day is good enough for me- I just had a nightmare about missing the 5 day window because of my email... Oh wait, another thing: when you get your offer and accept, do you pay your deposit then?

Re: Columbia Law Class of 2011
they sent me two emails, one for the actual offer and then a separate one with deposit instructions. you have to pay the deposit to accept the offer, they prefer that you pay online.

Excellent. Was the deposit 2 months' rent, or some random amount?

Re: Columbia Law Class of 2011
for me it was just a room deposit, $400
Edit: Again I got an apartment share in non-law school only housing
caits i hope you realize how hard it is for me to be giving this helpful info to you, considering the comeback your team made against mine last night...

Not Pleased
Got my housing assignment. I ask to be south of 115th and instead they placed me by the 125th street subway (actually 2 blocks west, and even further from the law school, on Riverside Drive). WTF?!?!
At least it is cheap. By the way, I told UAH that price was the least important of the five criteria that I listed. Do they even read the applications?
I am in Chicago right now so I ask somebody who lives locally to spy the apartment area and see how bad I got screwed. Fortunately the set-up is not bad. The building and street are nice and it is only ½ way down the hill. -- For those of you not familiar with the area, it is not called Morningside Heights for nothing, Columbia sits on top of giant hill and 125th and the neighborhood on the other side of Morningside Park are on the bottom. So my share is probably safe and quiet, however my apartment is much further away from school and the scene than I wanted.

Finally got my apartment!! Thrilled with the address and the price. Didn't get a floor plan though. Who should I contact to get that?

You could try to write back to them for a floor plan, but if they didn't send it to you it probably means that it doesn't exist. (They don't have it for all buildings.)

Re: Columbia Law Class of 2011
Hi everyone! I mostly posted over at LSD, but I wanted to say that I'm excited to join you all at CLS in the fall!! I got my housing approval email last Monday and my assignment email on Friday. I'm thrilled with my assignment - a 2BR apartment share on 112 street. I specifically requested a non-law school roommate and the bigger bedroom, both of which I got. From the floor plan, it looks like our apartment even has a "study" in addition to the living room!!
The only thing I didn't get that I asked for was a huge closet
Can't wait to meet everybody! Incidentally, does anyone here happen to be in D.C. this summer? We're having a CLS 2011 happy hour in DC this Thursday...

No, I didn't know anybody - just requested someone random (of the same gender)!
I'm sure you'll get your assignment soon. Seems like they are trickling in a few at a time!
