Re: UCLA Law Class of 2011
So, as I look forward to having yet another softball game snowed out tomorrow (check weather for Boulder, CO, if you don't believe me), it dawned on me that I'm moving back to Southern CA where the weather is (almost) always perfect. This makes me very happy. Sure, I'll miss seasons a little bit but I'm sure I'll manage.
I also realized that I'll miss softball and that brings me to my next question.
Anyone here interested in joining/forming a non-competitive co-ed slow-pitch softball team? I know we'll be busy and all, but I'm thinking that one night a week of vaguely athletic pursuits and cheap beer will be good for my soul and sanity.
Who's with me?

I'm flying down to Westwood tonight for a few days to check out housing and stuff. When are you all planning on making the move down there? I'll probably try to settle in sometime around the start of August or so.

Uhh, no, being good isn't a pre-requisite. In fact, those who played competitively past their early teens probably should not apply. However, the ability to enjoy domestic beer in a can is a plus.

Unfortunately, UCLA IM sports only offers softball spring quarter. Meaning that law students, on the semester system, will be able to get two or three games at the most in before everyone leaves for the summer...
One of the reasons I liked Boalt was because it had softball BOTH semesters

silveri, i'm down but jerry maguire will be negotiating our deal.
heist, i'm driving out from nj. I hate the winters here so much i'm throwing away all my coats and driving 3000 miles to get away from it. it's 51% of the reason i applied to law school. there's nothing to freak out about.

Well, I'm sure there are other options than intramural. I play in a city league now. I'll do some research and get back to y'all.
And I'm relieved to hear that there is some interest. I might have begged TX to take me back if nobody heading to UCLA was up for some slow pitch.
I'm driving out from CO in June and I'll be spending the summer bumming around beautiful places throughout the south/intermountain west, Sierra, and Pacific coast. Probably heading to Westwood Aug 1 to get settled.

I also applied to the summer program, though I don't have my hopes up....I thought after I put my deposit down at UCLA that I was done being rejected from things?!?
For the curious, I found some self-authored youtube videos which show the innards of Weyburn here -
A studio (fairly unfurnished) -

Another studio (more furnished but you gotta tilt your head "library style")

Two bedroom (kitchen and living room) -

I'm also very bad at softball but would be willing to give things a try...count me in!

Thanks for the links. Those are some great videos! The places look small, but totally decent.

Well, I'm going to be moving to Westwood from England, so you East Coasters have it easy! I'll be living in Weyburn - they guaranteed me a place there since a private apartment search is off the table for me. I don't know whether I will have a studio or a 2 bedroom, but both look ok judging by those videos; new enough, clean, small but not unlivably so (thanks for posting them by the way).
I'd be up for softball, never played before so I'll probably suck, but who cares?! If anyone wants to do IM soccer, or just pick-up games, I'd definitely be down for that too. I really wanted to do the summer program, but I'm going to a wedding over the first weekend of it, terrible timing.
Look forward to seeing all of you in august.

I'm definitely down for some IM basketball. We should get a team together when we get there, start practicing. When does the season start?

That does sound like a lot of fun. If only I could shoot, dribble or pass

All this talk about various team sports makes me sad that my kickball league season is over.
For those of you who aren't quite serious enough about sports for the competition of softball or basketball, may I suggest kickball?
There are leagues all over LA. This year I played in North Hollywood, but there are leagues in Venice and Culver City.

Ummmm....I don't know how to say this to my future classmates, but I once spat at a guy over a kickball game. I honestly liked the dude, too.All this talk about various team sports makes me sad that my kickball league season is over.

I'm not surprised. The league I played in was fairly serious, and some people got, shall we say, overly invested in the outcomes. Arguing referees and rules and the like. But it's all followed by drinking, with a strong tradition of the winning team buying the losing team a pitcher.
But yeah, something about "children's games" can bring out the worst in people. In your case, I'm sure he deserved it.

yes! well, i'm hoping Grey's will get better soon. i stopped watching this season cause the show got so bad- or maybe I just really liked dr. burke and with his character gone, meredith and derek seem so much more annoying...mhiest02 wrote:hahah can we watch desperate AND greys? probably previous seasons bc the current one is the worst.
