I somehow doubt the new 1Ls will top the listserv lulz that our class provided to the rest of the school last September.
A few weeks ago I really, really wanted to write an email about horse abortions. Specifically, about the fact that certain pathogens can cause an entire herd's mares to spontaneously abort, and the (awesome) clinical term for this is an "abortion storm."
As an aside, I think that term is amazingly apropos to politically charged listserv chaos.

I leased a place sight-unseen last year...sort of. I found places (largely through
mapskrieg) and had a friend in Chi look at them and give me reviews. I'm happy with what I got.
If you have no friend to track it down, I'd say either of the places you listed is a safe bet. There will certainly be a bunch of fellow students there to commiserate with if you hate it.

I got an apartment at McClurg by calling the leasing center directly a couple weeks ago, and just faxing in my application/deposit. My mother stopped by and checked out a sample convertible, and has assured me it's more than enough room (I'm moving from New York, so I'm used to relatively small spaces...) Just thought I'd share for people still looking. As a general piece of information, people I know who live in Onterie say studios there don't have the french doors and 3/4 wall that McClurg big (i.e. convertible) studios have.

Has anyone heard from the financial aid office yet with official financial award letters?

Have you checked your NU e-mail? I received all of my information there.

How did you all decide on your lenders? It seems like lenders are pulling most of their borrower incentives. I'm leaning towards NU as a lender since the origination fees are the lowest.

I heard that this year's 2Ls and 3Ls were very disappointed in our class and apparent reserved-ness. Cliff was overheard breathing a sigh of relief that sounded almost like, "Thank you......"

I thought I read somewhere in this thread that NU law students get a discount at Holmes Place (I think that's the name of the gym). Did I actually see that or was that wishful thinking on my part?

When I toured McClurg Ct last week the leasing agent said something to that effect. Said you can get a year pass for like $180? I didn't check into it though.

Thanks for that link...has anyone seen this facility? The website makes it look amazing! NU must really want healthy students, because it doesn't look cheap.

I'm excited to see the new laptops they'll be offering under the 2008-2009 notebook program. I'm waaaay overdue for a new computer.

AAAH I hope they post the orientation schedule and laptop deals soon. I want to plan and get excited and buy stuff.
Where are you guys living?? I'm mildly panicked because it looks like I won't be able to go to Chicago before I have to sign a lease and move. Scary!!

Oh lord--that's about how much I pay for my gym now
per month. I guess I can't really justify keeping the current gym, can I?
I too am very excited about getting concrete orientation details. I just scheduled my last day at work.

Living at Onterie Center. I wanted to be close to school. I honestly thin that McClurg is a little nicer, but I was able to get a better deal on a studio and I liked the availability better. I didn't like 420 because it was pricier than the other two and when I was there the doorman was a real a-hole and it frankly pissed me off. Those are the only three I looked at, though.

Yeah...your Friday session (and all of orientation, for that matter) is different than it was last year. The inside scoop is that you've got a word from the Dean, and then the REAL show from Lupo. It'll be worth it.

Holmes Place is definitely worth it. A lot of my friends swear by their classes. I've been to a few and really liked what I saw. It also doesn't feel crowded, even when there are a lot of people there. And, of course, you can't beat ~$12/mo.
For the Lupo show, may I suggest not sitting in the front row, hungover....you may get picked on. All in good fun, of course.

So as long as you are still drunk it's ok?
Glad to hear it doesn't feel crowded...that's the one thing I hate...waiting. When a 45 minute workout stretches to 1.5 hours it'a a pain.

Anyone else get the email about the Law Preparatory Program?
If anyone's done it in the past, is it worth it?

I got the email. I'd like to know what the 2Ls think about it--if any of them attended, if it was useful, etc. Sounds a lot like Law Preview (but free), so I'm skeptical, but if anyone found it useful in the past, I'd consider it.

I did not attend (nor was I invited), but I recall reviews that were middling at best. You'll learn to brief (a skill you'll likely stop utilizing within two weeks...assuming you ever start) and a couple of other throwaways. In exchange, you miss out on mid-day trips to the beach, a friends apartment, or a bar.
On the other hand, it IS free.
Also, any of you that would like to bike in the months that it's a legit option (Sept through part of Nov and part of Apr through May), see here (LinkRemoved).

Wait, so not everyone is invited? Why are some invited and others not? Have some of us been tagged as needing "extra help?"
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
