I can't go because... well I'm on the east coast and I have class.
Tell me how it goes. I think my parents might go in my place.
It's due on the 15th, *sigh* but I had to mail it a week ago because I'm on the other side of the continent.

I just submitted my seat deposit today so i'll be seeing yall there. I went to the Student Host day last week and found it helpfuly enough not to take off work again to go to the Scholarship reception tomorrow or the open house friday.

I sent in my fin aid, but I don't think you're going to be hurt too too much. Hell, most, if not all, of it is just loans anyways. I'm going to use CitiBank because that's what my did for undergrad and I think it's just going to be easier just to pay one lender rather than a much of lenders.

Hi
my seat deposit is in and I'm 99% sure I will be joining everyone here in the fall.
I've been reading through some of the posts and it seems noone is even thinking about living in the brentwood/santamonica area. I'm coming from the east coast and don't have much experience in LA but I have a friend who lives in brentwood and attends USC and she says it's not that bad.
What do you guys think? Where should I be looking to move to?

Re: Loyola Law School (L.A.) - Class of 2011
Welcome!
That's actually interesting that no one has talked about Santa Monica. I've heard good things about there too. My only guess is that in our admissions packet, there's a section on living in L.A. Although Santa Monica is listed, it's one of the farthest places away (30 min. not including traffic). I mean if anyone finds anything good, I'd definitely be interested, but I think I'm primarily looking in the North Hollywood, Silverlake, and Los Feliz areas.

I'm waitlisted at Loyola and I'd DYING to go here. I've sent in a LOCI and extra letter of recommendation. Any advice?

I live over on the westside and I like it. It's tougher to find a cheaper place, but bargains exist. Because it is such a choice place to live, many apartments don't even need to list their vacancies online, so I'd recommend taking a saturday to drive the streets and look for the vacancy signs that are in front of apartments.adam wrote:Hi

As for the commute, it's not as bad as some might say. If you're from LA, it's not a big deal at all. Here's what to expect. If you leave in the morning heading downtown between 8-9am from Brentwood, it could take you 40-45 minutes to get to LLS. If you leave earlier or later than that, you're looking at 25 minutes. Coming home shouldn't be too bad of a commute, in rush hour 5-7pm, maybe 30 minutes. Going west during rush hour isn't that bad. One thing to know is that going EAST from Brentwood/Santa Monica between 5-7pm is completely horrible! Luckily, I imagine you won't be making this drive at that time, but if you were, it might take up to an hour to get to LLS from the westside.

Hope2s4, I don't know much else you can do besides setup a visit at the school to show that you're even more eager to go. If you didn't go already and want to contact someone to set up a visit contact Jannell Roberts. She is the assistant dean of admissions and is the one who talked to us first when I visited back in March. Goodluck
how much are apartments going for in north hollywood, silverlake , and los feliz? 1bd, 2bd, 3bd?

That stuff is pretty easy to find online, Google "North Hollywood apartments".adam wrote: how much are apartments going for in north hollywood, silverlake , and los feliz? 1bd, 2bd, 3bd?

It's tough to gauge apartments in silverlake/los feliz because they have such a mix. You can find luxury apts and then just your run of the mill stuff. I'd look on craigslist. I've mentioned it before but North Hollywood might be a good place for bargains. I had a friend who lived with a roommate in a nice two bedroom for $1200 but more than likely you'll find nice apartments in that area for $1400-$1500 and these same apartments would run $2200 in other areas of Los Angeles. It means riding the 101 into LLS, but you could also take the metro which could be nice as there's a stop in North Hollywood.adam wrote:Hope2s4, I don't know much else you can do besides setup a visit at the school to show that you're even more eager to go. 1Bds are gonna cost you more all throughout Los Angeles and generally I wouldn't recommend looking for one as they are not economical. Then again, if money's not an option, you could find 1Bds in North Hollywood for maybe $1100-$1200 and maybe $1400 in silverlake. You won't find a 1Bd for under $1500 in Brentwood. If you are intent on having your own place, I'd look for a studio.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
