After you send in your seat deposit--not what happens? what are we expecting now while we wait for housing assignment? when do you purchase books, etc?

Does anyone know how long it will take for us to find out about housing?
I just joined the Columbia Law 2011 facebook group. It feels so official now haha. And, I want my Columbia email address already!!!

I just sent in my deposit as well. Trying to fill out the housing application...when do we find out where we got assigned and maybe who our roommates are?

Just got the info for setting up the CLS email account!
Here's the link, if they've received your deposit you should be able to set it up:
http://www.law.columbia.edu/law_school/ ... ingstudent

Re: Columbia Law Class of 2011
Is anyone else having trouble signing up for email? I got the email, but I can't seem to get my UNI ... maybe I'm doing something wrong? It takes me to a search page, and then when I type in my name, nothing comes up -- I'm not in the directory. Any ideas?

Re: Columbia Law Class of 2011
yup, nothing with the last name only, either. or the first name only, or any combination of my first, middle, and last names. shoot!
Soul -- not much more in the directions. just the link and some clarifications. see below.
follow the instructions at:
http://www.law.columbia.edu/law_school/ ... ingstudent
We think the instructions to retrieve the UNI (which is required to set up your email) are somewhat convoluted. You will be asked to enter your name twice. Once your full name appears, please click on it to retrieve your UNI. Thereafter, you should follow the instructions to set up your email account

God my email address is ugly. No nice (firstinitial)(lastname)@columbia.edu address I guess.

Re: Columbia Law Class of 2011
I don't know if this will work yet for incoming students, but we all have a nicer redirect to the ugly-code e-mail address.
For example, if your name is Law Duck, your official e-mail address will look something like ld4328@columbia.edu, but there will be a redirect at law.duck@law.columbia.edu. (But as I said, these may not be in place yet for incoming students.) Redirect means that it isn't a separate account, but that mail sent there will arrive at ld4328.
They told us that the ugly e-mail is perpetual, but the redirects will be wiped out when we graduate, because they need the names for new students.

Oh that's (somewhat) better. Would be nice if the redirect lasted forever but it is at least, I guess, something.

My e-mail address especially annoys me because it is almost, but not quite, _ _ _2008.
So close -- so far away o_0.

Mine is just as bad: _ _ _ 2011... almost. ALMOST. Would that not have been perfect?o_0 wrote:My e-mail address especially annoys me because it is almost, but not quite, _ _ _2008.

To current students: what is the fitness center/gym situation at Columbia? has this question been answered elsewhere? If so, sorry for being too lazy to look for it

Re: Columbia Law Class of 2011
There is a gym. People who come from universities with better gyms say it's bad. I have nothing to compare it to, and I think it's OK. You occasionally have to wait to use one of the machines, but there are machines, there is a small running track, a weight-lifting room, a swimming pool, and some basketball/squash/I don't know what rooms.
It's not a shiny spacious gym, but it's adequate. (In my opinion, of course.)

I just received the link to the orientation website, but can't seem to access it. Anyone else having the same problem?

Hmm... I accessed it fine.
The website is helpful, but most of it is available in other places, just nice to have all necessary info in one place. The major new info is orientation schedule.

Hmm, what about the Admitted Students website? is anyone unable to access that as well?
Maybe there's a problem with my computer/internet connection.

this is so strange. I tried on two different computers in different locations and couldn't login to either site. i emailed the IT help desk earlier this afternoon, so I guess I'll see what they say.

Re: Columbia Law Class of 2011
there is a post over at LSD saying that the Admitted Students site works if you login with your AdmitNet username and password.
but nothing seems to be working for me.
