I just joined the Columbia Law 2011 facebook group. It feels so official now haha. And, I want my Columbia email address already!!!

Is anyone else having trouble signing up for email? I got the email, but I can't seem to get my UNI ... maybe I'm doing something wrong? It takes me to a search page, and then when I type in my name, nothing comes up -- I'm not in the directory. Any ideas?

yup, nothing with the last name only, either. or the first name only, or any combination of my first, middle, and last names. shoot!

We think the instructions to retrieve the UNI (which is required to set up your email) are somewhat convoluted. You will be asked to enter your name twice. Once your full name appears, please click on it to retrieve your UNI. Thereafter, you should follow the instructions to set up your email account

God my email address is ugly. No nice (firstinitial)(lastname)@columbia.edu address I guess.

I don't know if this will work yet for incoming students, but we all have a nicer redirect to the ugly-code e-mail address.

For example, if your name is Law Duck, your official e-mail address will look something like ld4328@columbia.edu, but there will be a redirect at law.duck@law.columbia.edu. (But as I said, these may not be in place yet for incoming students.) Redirect means that it isn't a separate account, but that mail sent there will arrive at ld4328.

They told us that the ugly e-mail is perpetual, but the redirects will be wiped out when we graduate, because they need the names for new students.

To current students: what is the fitness center/gym situation at Columbia? has this question been answered elsewhere? If so, sorry for being too lazy to look for it

There is a gym. People who come from universities with better gyms say it's bad. I have nothing to compare it to, and I think it's OK. You occasionally have to wait to use one of the machines, but there are machines, there is a small running track, a weight-lifting room, a swimming pool, and some basketball/squash/I don't know what rooms.

It's not a shiny spacious gym, but it's adequate. (In my opinion, of course.)

Hmm... I accessed it fine.

The website is helpful, but most of it is available in other places, just nice to have all necessary info in one place. The major new info is orientation schedule.

Hmm, what about the Admitted Students website? is anyone unable to access that as well?

Maybe there's a problem with my computer/internet connection.

this is so strange. I tried on two different computers in different locations and couldn't login to either site. i emailed the IT help desk earlier this afternoon, so I guess I'll see what they say.

there is a post over at LSD saying that the Admitted Students site works if you login with your AdmitNet username and password.

but nothing seems to be working for me.
