Yeah, good question snap. I know some of you must have gotten your scholarship stuff with your acceptance pack. Does that mean that we're out any money, or are there still certain scholarships to be offered at a later date? If not and you're among the penniless, does anyone think that UMich is superspendy or is it just me?

Lawyers Club:
Nope, no kitchen, but the dining hall serves all meals except for Saturday night dinner.
I like the food. I'm a pretty picky eater (I should rephrase: I eat anything but I'm a food snob in terms of quality.) The salad bar is well stocked with good stuff like feta and other accoutrements. They have nutritional info over all of the food, which is nice. There's a dessert bar, ice cream...it's all pretty standard. It's definitely a step up from normal cafeteria, and although I don't live in LC, I think I'm going to get a meal plan for next semester. It's definitely a social hub, though. I think a lot of the LC people made a ton of friends, but at times they can get kind of sick of each other. I think most people had a good experience, from what I understand. It's definitely convenient in terms of bars, etc.
I'm off campus and don't regret my decision to be off campus, except for when it comes to going out. Luckily, my bf lives nearby campus, so I can crash there, but otherwise it was sort of lame being "far." It depends on what you're looking for. I had lived in housing forever prior to LS so I had to get out. You'll just have to check it out. It's typically 1/2 1Ls, and then the other half is broken down into 2Ls, 3Ls, and other students (LLMs, etc).

I'm very much torn between Lawyer's Club/Phid and off-campus housing. I did UG in Boston and lived off-campus most of the time due to general disgust with dorms. However, I think a simple bedroom with communal living area would be nice for first year.
The thought of moving my possessions (even if I furnish an apartment largely through Craigslist) all the way to Ann Arbor, only to sublet the place the summer after 1L, makes me cringe. Simply put, moving sucks and LC/Ph would allow me to move as little as possible.
I'm bored while waiting for the Pats game, so here's the situation as I see it:
Lawyer's Club pros:
-proximity to campus
-lack of extensive (and expensive) move-in/move-out and furnishing
-lack of need to sublet if leave for summer
-community (maybe a bad thing at times) with other 1Ls
-easy dining hall access and no need to worry about buying food/cooking
-no need to seek out roomies (which can be a disastrous endeavor)
-reduced need for car, and thus money saved from gas, insurance, etc.
Off-campus pros:
-more living space
-potential to save money over LC
-potential to save money by making own food
--such saved money can support auto use/maintenance
-freedom from hectic 1L dorm atmosphere (I assume this applies more during finals)
-ability to host study groups, gatherings, parties, whatever
-actually having a kitchen, living room, etc. so as to live like a normal person and not a college frosh
Please make contributions to this appraisal.
