Does Ruby affect HYS Aid? Forum

So I'm in an unexpectedly amazing position of having acceptances to HYS and being offered the Mordecai and Ruby (still waiting on a few other named scholarships).

Will HYS negotiate their aid based on my Ruby and Mordecai, or will they pretty much only care about what the other 2 offer?

HYS aid is purely need-based so they wouldn't give a damn if Chicago (or any other school) gave you a million bucks to attend.

Also, you didn't ask, but tcr is to take the Ruby at Chicago, barring an unusually large amount of ~~merit~~ need-based aid at one of HYS.

I expect quite a bit of aid (though I know what their ceilings are) at HYS, and have other reasons including a partner and personal preference, for wanting to attend one of HYS (won't say which though).

Fair enough. The wishes of a partner are worth a lot.

HYS only offer need-based aid, but my experience was that their formula for calculating need is somewhat subjective. So there's some wiggle room for negotiation. It's worth a shot at least.

If you plan on doing a firm job during your time at school, I'd rule out H, because it will gut your need-based aid. This is from someone at H who loves it here. Dunno how Y/S deal with that.

But do you essentially end up with a similar amount of money? For instance, if you receive max aid(~35k), took home 25k from an SA, would you pretty much end up with 10k in aid the following year?
