when do we apply for federal student loans?

Post by uhwrestler » Sun Jan 22, 2017 4:54 am

hello,

so i am assuming we apply for loans as soon as we decide what school we are attending and see how much funding we will get.
but is there a deadline or recommended timeline to apply for loans?
and should we go ahead and apply for fafsa now

You submit your FAFSA to any school where you've been accepted. Schools will inform you of the loan calculations. If the school has a specific time frame for releasing scholarship information, that's usually when you find out about the specifics of your loan.

But you really don't need to worry about how much you'll get. Assuming you haven't got the world's worst credit, you'll get the maximum amount for Stafford loans, and the rest will be Grad PLUS loans, up to the annual cost of attendance for the school in question.

Do it now. I did mine in November. Sent it to my top 10 schools. If you don't make it, you can change the school.

Is changing a difficult process? Should I include Harvard and Yale even if I have no decision as of yet?
I included it to all the schools I was really interested in, so they could calculate everything really fast. Changing is not a hard thing.
