Will HB2 Law Impact Funding at UNC Forum

Is it possible that HB2 will play a large role in the funding at UNC Chapel Hill? Federal funding? Alumni donations? Staff leaving? Should this be a major or minor concern for an incoming 1L?

It will be repelled eventually. Too much of a s^%$ storm right now. Already seeing significant drops in tourism in NC, along with other things. It wont last 6 more months before being repealed.

The UK issued a travel warning to all LGBT people with plans to travel to NC. I do not see this law staying in place very long lol

Somebody asked that at the ASD recently. They seemed very surprised that the person asked that. Meaning it seems like they aren't expecting to lose federal funding any time soon. I don't think anyone will let it get that far. Hopefully it just gets repealed and everyone can move on with their lives.

Anyone who has spent time in Chapel Hill knows it's just about the furthest thing from a Republican-controlled General Assembly possible. No one would enforce the ruling here, much less let it influence holding their job,alumni giving,etc. Not sure how federal funding plays in, but can't imagine it matters.

No. State funding for the law school was already significantly curtailed during the recession and has never picked back up. HB2 will have zero impact on that situation. As for alumni giving, alumni get both that the General Assembly does stupid things and that the law school has zero connection to the law. Alumni are not about to punish the law school for it. Regarding staff, it's a plum job to work in the administration. Most people love the school and make decent (not great) money. I highly doubt anyone will leave over it—much less anyone that matters. For federal funding—I neither know how much federal funding we receive nor what impact the law might have. If it will have an impact, it will be down the pike.
