Berkeley Matching Scholarship?

Post by wellreallynow » Tue Jan 26, 2016 4:23 pm

Hi everyone, hoping for some advice. I’m in at most of the T-14 schools (except YS), but currently only have an offer from Michigan (100k+). Should I go ahead and apply for the Berkeley matching program with that even though there are other schools I’d go to over Michigan or do I wait to hear back from other places and risk matching funds running out? I'm planning to do PI and paying for LS myself so the more $ the better. Thanks!

They won't even award aid until March so I don't see how you benefit from not waiting to see what at least some of your other offers are

I thought the process is rolling (aka once it opens in Jan, the earlier you submit your application, the better chance you have of getting more money?)

From the FAQ:
https://www.law.berkeley.edu/admissions ... holarship/

When can I apply for a Matching Scholarship? When will I find out if I am selected?

We begin accepting applications in approximately mid-January, or whenever the form becomes available online. You are encouraged to apply as soon as possible, as awards will be made on a rolling basis. Priority will be given to applicants who submit all materials before April 15. Most decisions will be made by May 15.

Since the Priority deadline is April 15th not clear how much of an advantage you would stand to get by applying right now. I guess it's ultimately up to you if you want to submit the Michigan offer, but consider that you only get to submit one matching application.

If you feel like you're likely to get an offer over 100k from another of the match schools, then I'd wait. If it isn't likely, Id submit the match request now. I'd def. Submit one way or the other before the end of feb. Though.

FYI I was in the exact same situation and did submit my UM offer a couple weeks ago. Haven't heard back yet

It's my understanding that they don't announce matching scholarships until April. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, though.
