I've actually read that thread already but thought it made sense to start my own since that one has not been active for 5 months and seems to have been created to allow the class of existing AnBryce scholars to connect with the incoming class rather than to answer my specific question.

Let me offer my apologies then for what, with all the information, now probably sounded snarky. To be candid though, I think that represents the best information out there about how to structure the essay is probably in there. Everyone had a different writing style my year. I think most people went narrative based, I know I did.

Thank you for your help! I thought I was probably safe either way as long as it was well written, I just wanted to make sure there wasn't some convention I was unaware of.

One important tip with the NYU named scholarships is that the general admissions and each separate scholarship committee/interview panel have access to all of your essays. Thus, if you apply for RTK and AnBryce, both committees can read either essays. I once asked Kleinrock in general admissions if he read everything, he said that while he couldnt speak for every adcom member, he certainly does read the named scholarship essays when reaching a general admissions decision.

In my AnBryce interview, I got questions about my diversity statement, and my general personal statement.

So, word to the wise, use the different essays to show different parts of yourself, your life, your achievements, and goals so that a richer picture of yourself emerges. Panels are likely to read all of the materials you provide. Personally, I erred on the side of not repeating stories and explanations. Each essay stood by itself but also provided context for the other essays.
