How reliable is need aid?
Tried asking this in the ask a law student/graduate forum but it's not getting many bites. Wondering how reliable getting the same need aid over all three years is. What was your experience? More aid, less aid, same aid, why?

If you get a paying job during your time in law schools, you'll lose some of it.

Are you talking about non-loans? I'm not getting shit for 'need' based aid besides loans, even with absolute need.

Non loans, straight up need aid money that does not need to be repaid at any pointRCSOB657 wrote:Are you talking about non-loans? I'm not getting shit for 'need' based aid besides loans, even with absolute need.

I'm not getting any. Not sure how many law schools do it. My EFC for this year was 0, so the need was there.

Re: How reliable is need aid?
I did my taxes and FAFSA back in January. The EFC is printed right on the FAFSA. Please note so there is no confusion, I got the standard need Pell Grant in undergrad and would have gotten that again this year except I am finally graduating. I am OL entering law school this fall at a school that has not offered me any need aid whatsoever, but probably because I have merit aid. The need is there, I will be forced to take out loans for COL. It was hinted in my school's website that need aid could be used in some cases but that's school based as you know. Fed Gov't doesn't give need aid for grad schools.

Ok I'm talking about a need access school. Was thinking maybe you found out what need access EFC you had.RCSOB657 wrote:I did my taxes and FAFSA back in January. Re: How reliable is need aid?
It varies by school, for example, at my school once you subtract 7k you're expected to contribute 60% of your summer earnings.mec896 wrote:Do you have a general idea of how much of it? So if you get a SA that pays 30k-7k= 23k x .6= 13,800 is what you're expected to pay the following year. So having need based aid of 11k minus 13.8k you're expected to contribute from your summer earnings means you'd end up loosing all of your need based aid.
