UT Law and Grad Plus Loan

Post by netherlands » Sun Jul 13, 2014 11:30 am

Does anyone have experience with applying for the Grad Plus Loan at UT law? It's July and I haven't heard anything back from them about whether or not I've been approved for the GP loan. Initially - on the student gov site back in May I wasn't allowed to actually put in an app myself bc apparently their law school does things differently and once they see information from your FAFSA they put in an app for you rather than your doing it directly on the student gov website.

Now it is July and I've called the financial aid office several times over the past couple months but their rep Shirley keeps telling me that it won't be until mid July until I find out whether I've been approved or denied. This seems odd to me bc obv there are some students ( like myself) who are at risk of being denied and may need to appeal - thus, why would the school/gov wait so long to inform us of whether we're in the clear? I have a CO on my credit report of about $3000 but am afraid to make a move on it without speaking with representatives from the Dep of Education first, however - they can't speak to you about it until its been processed and essentially denied first.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this and if so if you could give me any advice or relay your experience. Safe to say - every other day I begin freaking the **** out. I haven't signed a lease on an apartment or anything bc I'm afraid to jump the gun without knowing what is going on with my loan.

Please share anything you may know!

Not a UT student, but looking back at my records, I didn't get any info/confirmation about my Grad Plus loans until the end of July (school starting 3rd week in August). This was a few years ago now, but the timeline you have sounds normal.
