increased award over the summer? Forum

So I have already committed to a school with a seat deposit and all that jazz, but when I was emailing the office about financial aid before I committed they said there was a chance more financial aid/ scholarship money would become available over the summer as people dropped to go to other (better) schools. Is it at all possible my award is increased if I ask the fin aid office about this over the summer? I'm already going there so i imagine there isn't any incentive to give me any, but then why would they mention? Just to get people hopeful they might get some. Thanks for any knowledge you guys might have.

I spoke with someone who said the school she was committed to called her over the summer and asked her if she was on any wait lists and, if so, would she be willing to withdraw from them for more money. They increased her offer because of that.
