Specifying Desired loan amount
If my school prepares a loan amount for my COL expenses totaling $20,000.00, can I request that the school give me only $15,000.00 instead? Will schools comply with students' wishes, or do they offer specific loan packages only?

Cool. So I say "$14,769.93", and they say, "Ok."?patogordo wrote:you can take anywhere from $0 to full COA.whereskyle wrote:If my school prepares a loan amount for my COL expenses totaling $20,000.00, can I request that the school give me only $15,000.00 instead? yup. i mean on the off chance that your school won't do it, you can always return a portion of your loans within 30 or 60 days or something so it would be a moo point.whereskyle wrote:Cool. I'm assuming that school-offered scholarships will reduce the maximum loan amount - is there anything else that will? I'm not sure how EFC plays into it; does the EFC have anything to do with the amount of Grad Plus loans you can take out?patogordo wrote:you can take anywhere from $0 to full COA.whereskyle wrote:If my school prepares a loan amount for my COL expenses totaling $20,000.00, can I request that the school give me only $15,000.00 instead? no, EFC has nothing to do with it. outside scholarships might reduce your eligibility for loans but it would depend on how your school treats outside scholarships (i.e., whether they apply them to reduce loans or to reduce institutional aid).ScottRiqui wrote:I'm assuming that school-offered scholarships will reduce the maximum loan amount - is there anything else that will?
