Need Access Required for Stafford/GradPlus?

Post by SplitMyPants » Tue Feb 25, 2014 12:39 pm

All students who wish to be considered for law school scholarships which have a need component or who are planning to apply for federal financial aid including Stafford and GradPlus Loans must complete both the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the on-line Need Access application.
In UVA's financial email they state that Need Access is required if you are looking to use Stafford and GradPlus loans. I was under the impression that this was not the case. Am I misreading the above sentence? TYIA

Sounds like your school requires that you fill out another form on top of the FAFSA. I searched the "Need Access" application and this is what came up: http://www.needaccess.org

You are correct that Stafford Unsubsidized Loans and GradPLUS Loans are not need-based loans and are awarded through completion of the FAFSA application. Perhaps your school has a second application to determine eligibility for university-based grants?
