Loan Repayment After a Gap Year...

Post by Like_Spike » Tue Oct 08, 2013 6:31 pm

I'm taking next year off (i.e. applying in the Fall 2014 cycle) and will have to start repaying my loans 9 months after I graduate this spring. My question is once I enroll in law school for the Fall of 2015 will I be able to once again defer my payments until after I'm done with law school?

I believe that is the standard, yes. Are we talking about federal loans?

Apologies, yes I am. Just your standard subsidized Stafford loans.

I paid starting in January (6 mo after graduation) and then got my UG loans deferred when I started law school after working in between. Depending on your servicer, the deferment may kick in a little late.. like October or maybe September. But you will be able to defer for any legitimate FT graduate program, and the loan servicer will activate the deferment as soon as they've confirmed your enrollment
