Preemptively Negotiating Schollies

Post by PRgradBYU » Fri Apr 05, 2013 8:17 pm

I believe I already know the answer to this, but I want to know what everyone thinks: With it being this late in the cycle, do you think it's worth it to start negotiating a scholarship from a school if I've been accepted there but otherwise haven't heard anything from them? I.e, if I've been accepted to Schools X and Y and School X offered me a certain amount but School Y hasn't yet, should I use School X's scholly to start negotiations with School Y?

The obvious disadvantage to this would be giving School Y leverage to "low-ball it" and simply match School X's offer when they might have otherwise given me a higher scholly, but I want to know what everyone thinks / know if anyone has had success doing this. PM me if you feel it's necessary for me to disclose specific schools' names.

You should wait until you get an offer.

Don't show your cards, but feel free to ask them about money.

Great advice, guys. I'll try to think of the most genuine, non-arrogant way to say, "Where's my money?" Definitely let me know if you guys have any approaches that have worked well for you.
