Any possibility of aid if accepted ED?
I applied ED to Columbia, and I'm almost scared I'll get in, as I'll probably have to pay sticker.
Obviously, I'm committed to go if accepted. Can I still see how other school's offers come back, and is there any chance at leveraging aid if I get something to NYU, etc.? Or is this just something I have to accept?

It's something you're going to have to accept. You can ask, but since you have very little leverage (not attending and reapplying in a year), they probably will not give you scholarship money. They will use it to attract students with characteristics they want (numbers/diversity).joedf wrote:I applied ED to Columbia, and I'm almost scared I'll get in, as I'll probably have to pay sticker.

Makes sense. I think I knew this in the back of my mind, sadly, but was blindly hoping someone might contradict me.
Means a lot, man, I appreciate your help.

What? You really have minimal leverage after you've been accepted early decision. Your only other option is just to sit out a year and reapply. That's not very persuasive to schools. And certainly not the type of leverage that a financial aid package at a peer school could exert.FloridaCoastalorbust wrote:leverage after accepted.

Probably not happening, Columbia is stingy as is.
If you want to leverage you should wait until late summer though at the point where it might be more convenient to just give you the money than to risk losing you and having to deal with the WL. At that point you should email them and say after evaluating your financial circumstances you are becoming progressively more weary of the debt you are about to take on and that any scholarship aid would greatly alleviate that stress and make you more likely to matriculate.
Just don't word it as an ultimatum or they might take you up on it.
All that only matters if you get in, don't worry until that happens.

Haha that's true, I'm not even in yet.
You have an interesting suggestion on waiting until late summer, but is that really an option? I know the ED agreement advises you to decline all other offers immediately and notify the schools you've already applied to, which I'd figured would preclude me from waiting for offers elsewhere should I get accepted.

I received money after accepted ED by asking.ph14 wrote:What? You really have minimal leverage after you've been accepted early decision. Your only other option is just to sit out a year and reapply. Worth a shot, thanks!
Not expecting anything but I won't get rescinded if I ask, assuming I get in in the first place. Thanks for all the help, sincerely, both of you
