Ive never seen these under 1k or 1100 apartments you are talking about. But maybe because I won't live in a walk up without a doorman?

As a NYer, I can tell you they are around.

As an NYer, you probably also have a broader definition of "livable."

But seriously, decent priced apartments (doormen approved ) are around.

I'm a new yorker too. I need a doorman to help with pick ups and deliveries because I'm never home. Also for safety. Also I want to have a good responsible land lord. Also, I have never lived in the city without a doorman. No interest in starting now.

It is totally doable in less than 7 years.
