Some states have additional loans you can take out if you are a resident.

Do you know what they call those or how to find them and how to apply?

Well I only know Texas. I think your best bet is to contact the financial aid dept of a school you are applying to and ask them. They will know and be more than happy to help.

Your school's financial aid office has some leeway to increase your amount of Grad PLUS eligibility if you have children. You should be able to borrow an extra $5,000 a year or so per child. You may need to list/verify your additional expenses.
