Fee Waivers- University of California

Post by tunarat » Sat Dec 03, 2011 3:01 am

In the instructions section of apps for schools such as UC Davis and Hastings, the schools make it clear that they do not offer in-house fee waivers. I have numbers that should get me admitted to both, but I really don't want to spend $100 on an application, especially when most other schools have offered me fee waivers.

Do you think they may award me with a fee waiver if I email them and ask for one, or is this going to be interpreted as an inability to read and follow directions? Has anyone received a fee waiver from Davis or Hastings, or any other school that denied having an in-house fee waiver system?

Eh, I don't think it will hurt you to ask, but don't get your hopes up.

I got a fee waiver code from Davis. I'd send them an email with your stats and LSAC number and they'll probably get back to you. I wonder if my unused code could be used by someone else, I doubt it though.

I sent an email to UC Davis a few days ago because I was in a similar position. I sent them an email about my LSAT/GPA, LSAC number, etc. and asked them if they offered fee waivers and whether I would qualify. They promptly replied no, and that they only offered fee waivers through the candidate referral service (CRS). However, the next morning I received an email from LSAC that UC Davis had granted me a fee waiver through the CRS. Coincidence? I don't think so; give it a shot.

Thanks everyone for your help. I ended up receiving a fee waiver without asking them...but it came four days after I sent in my app. I asked them if they would refund the application fee, but they said no. Bummer.

But this does give me hope to ask UC Hastings for one. Fight on.
