#1 @ t1 Law School 35-45+$$$ vs. Transferring to UVA

Post by Gary Sanchez » Fri Jul 01, 2011 8:28 am

Currently number #1 at T1 35-45 range. Don't know where I want to live necessarily, but probably on the West Coast. Is it worth transferring across the country when I'm on the west coast now with a #1 rank? I just received a full tuition offer from my current school and obviously will be paying sticker anywhere else I attend. Don't know what kind of law I want to get into.

Should my decision be different if I get into H/S vs. UVA?

Basically want to know if my job prospects will be any better moving up when I am #1 @ my current school?

Stanford would be a no-brainer for your interests. I think you should take Harvard if you get it. But UVA...probably not, seeing that your current West coast prospects would be unlikely to improve. and now I open the floor to people who actually know what they are talking about. Congrats and good luck!

I'm also in @ Berkeley i guess I should have said that. I just have ties to UVA and love the school.

how big is the gap between you and #2? I think if you can stay #1, that's something that shouldn't be thrown away. #1 at a good fit T1 with no more debt is a pretty sweet setup. I feel like that is close to equivalent to top quarter at stanford, and you wouldn't have to sell your soul and take a biglaw job in order to pay off your mountain of debt.

I'd stay put with a full ride and #1 ranking. You just won't squeeze $80K+ worth of benefit at a better school. BEING number 1, and knowing it, will really help your job hunt in the 2L fall. That will catch the eye of basically every firm, judge, DA's office, etc. in the country from a respectable school, as yours is.
