Received Full Scholarship (In-state)..Ask for COL Stipend?

Post by BizOwner » Thu Mar 03, 2011 9:48 pm

I received a full scholarship for an in-state school as long as I maintain a 3.25. Is asking for a stipend unheard of or even a bad idea?

I not sure if law schools even offer stipends above a full scholarship.

Find out if they ever do. If they ever do, then might as well go for it. It's not like they're going to rescind your scholarship offer because you were greedy or something.

I didn't mean to imply you were greedy. It could be interpreted that way, though.

If you really don't have financial resources at your disposal, and you have a good case for a stipend, make it. The worst they can say is no.

The GPA stipulation concerns me as well. I wonder how many schools use this as a ploy to lure applicants but maintain a low grading curve.

it's possible. what school is this? many will negotiate the gpa stipulation or remove it, if you ask.

Any other experiences or insight concerning stipend requests?

Since I received an in-state tuition full scholarship, I am a "cheaper" applicant than an out-of-state applicant in terms of scholarship funds.

3.25 is probably above median, which means you have a decent chance of losing the scholarship. Get that stipulation removed.

Would a simple "would you consider removing xyz stipulation" email be effective? Or should I build a polite and logical argument to base the request on?

+1. I'd be way more worried about that 3.25 stipulation than a stipend.
