Need-Based Aid Question

Does someone whose family has an annual income of under 50K qualify for need-based aid? Does need based aid go through FAFSA or the individual school? Sorry I am new with this, any answers would be greatly appreciated.

Whether you qualify for need-based aid depends on the school. You need to fill out the FAFSA to qualify for Federal Student Aid (Stafford Loans), but most schools also use that information for their own need-based calculations. All need-based aid is done through the university itself and some schools require extra information - usually more detailed accounts of your and your parent's income.
